this is a voluntary advisory committee, so i can't actually force any other department to come. we have had several departments that have continuous attendance. the fire department always comes. we have representatives now with the m.t.a. that mostly comes to every meeting and we also have some health department official that are coming to the meeting. so we are getting better attendance from other departments. we would like to increase the departments to include all the plan checking departments. but sometimes it's just not within their schedules to attend. but we do have representatives of industry. and any public member is able to come to these meetings. we have an agenda. and we also request that if someone wants to talk about an item on the agenda, that they let us know and we try to put that item on the agenda. president murphy: i think that last sentence that you said there, the customers, the people that are writing the checks, they need to be heard. this is a very important committee. it's not something that started last week or last month. it's been around since direct

that is on the access appeal commission code advisory committee and board of examiner. we took the opportunity to speak with some members to see how things were going on the respective bodies. they reported that things are going well and they are working closely with d.b.i. staff, which is a good thing. the code advisory committee was probably the busiest body among the three as they reviewed the changes to our codes that occurred this past year or so and the legislative proposals that came before us. we did discuss with the code advisory committee about supplying us with more background material when they make recommendations to us so we can better understand how they arrive at their decisions and perhaps it could help us understand the process with participants and what they discussed at the meetings. then i was reminded that we are all welcome to attend those meetings. so you are free to do so. we were to review the status of the appointments to those three bodies and we decided that appointing members to the code advisory committee is the most urgent task at this po

in october, we contacted each advisory body complete with all of to obtain the necessary information. are not capable of responding. some just to not respond. which then leads us to publish an outdated list every december. the second issue is that during the year we are not always informed about the vacancies when they arise, which also leads to inconsistent information on our website regarding our vacancies. should this ordinance passed, heat advisory body would be required to post on their website and the city's website their vacancy information. there would still be required to provide the clerk with their vacancy information, so we can accurately prepare the list at the end of the year and put out a vacancy notice during the year. i think this ordinance provides an opportunity for more timely and accurate information to the public and perhaps for more local appointments list from our office. public policy is good. ideally, this ordinance would help remind the departments, boards, commissions, about the responsibility to lead an attack -- identify who is responsible for posting the

i am also on the advisory council, the advisory council to the department of aging, and i work 13 years in self-help for the elderly in chinatown and 13 years in the tenderloin, and that is where my experience with immigrants was initiated. i'm still active with many groups, and language access, which is part of immigrants' rights, is a very important issue to seniors as well as other immigrants, and i have been pleased that the language access ordinance was revised and extended and, hopefully, we will have some additional languages this year after census data gets in. seniors often have difficulty learning english, and even those who learn it sometimes prefer to speak their original language, and not continue to speak english, so i think it is very important that we keep doing that. i began to discover the extent of immigrants during the fast pass their increase, and i was one of the people who went around the senior mills said, and i go to senior mills said its regularly, and if they are not just one group regularly -- i was one of the people who went around the senior meal sites. you
