effective date of april 1, 2014, for approximately 6,024 square feet of space at 3450 third street, with the san francisco child abuse advocacy center of san francisco through the human services agency at the initial monthly rent of $22,113.10 for the period from april 1, 2014 through march 31, 2015. >> supervisor breed. >> yes, thank you, president chew. i wanted to make some comments about this particular lease. i want to start by mentioning the child abuse prevention center, there's a location in district 5, they do incredible work, but the problem i have with this is not the child abuse prevention center. it's rather the lease and the fact that it's retro active. i received invitations to the grand opening before we approved this lease. i know that the department of housing and other entities have moved into this location before the board of supervisor approved this lease and the department of real-estate needs to make sure that they're working collectively with the board of supervisor in bringing leases to us in a timely manner and not after the fact for retro activity. i wanted to make that note for the record but because this

child advocacy center, and from the time that it was really nothing but a pipe dream that we talked about after the interviews of the basement of general, and it has come about because of the san franciscohild abuse center, and they have provided what finally brought about, the child advocacy center. the children who have been the victims of sexual or physical assault are often profoundly traumatized and without help they will not heal and this center allows that to happen, and it allows them to come to one place, and tell their story once, to a trained transit nurse, such as glory who you just heard from, not have to tell it again to the cps and then to the police and again to the doctor. and if they need medical help, they can see the doctor there, in that building, instead of having to be transported with their family to general, to an er that may be kie chaotic and scary to a child and they can see the kher pift there and they can see the victim advocate there, and who can set them up with services and make sure that the family is cared for as well as the child. it not only vastly improves the lives of the children who come through it and the chances of complete healing but it impro

advocacy groups such as senior and disability action, the sro collaborative, housing rights committee, independent living resource center san francisco and others. because they have done surveys to really understand the scope of the problem, they have personalized their stories and advocated for hearings and also advocated for funding and because of this collective advocacy, i want to announce there is going to be a hearing on this coming monday, june 23rd, starting at 10:00 a.m. in room 416 here at city hall. it's a hearing before the land use and economic development committee and this hearing was sponsored by supervisor jane kim, who has district 6, where many of these problems occur. and the supervisor has sponsored this hearing specifically about elevators and disability access in single-room occupancy hotels. there will be presented by the department of building inspection, the health department and our office. and the focus will be on disability access when elevators are out of service, the cost of repairs and replacement, and best practices for mitigation by property owners and building management. this is a very important hearing and both the council, and other disability advocates have clearly gotte
