maya: this was a hearing in the agriculture committee, one of the committees that i looked at in the house. and it really brought in different folks to talk about the many different issues that are involved in snap. the supplemental nutrition assistance program of the government, known as food stamps. and one of the legislators that i spoke to recounted specifically a hearing that talked about veterans who rely on food assistance. and the story of a specific veteran who had given so much to the country, relying on food stamps, early, i think for him -- really, i think for him, underscoring the importance of that program. and the program of the 2018 farm bill, the farm bill's proceeding it, -- bills proceeding it. had a voting of what that bill would look like, the story of that veteran and the way that hearing illuminated part of the issue for him really made him think about food assistance in a different way. this was a legislator who had not been supportive of the program before. and so, really humanizing and also adding another perspective to the issue for him that he had not perh

well, i do a lot of work on the agriculture committee. i'm proud being on that committee. agriculture is the largest business in georgia and. we've done many things from helping georgia farmers to get their to market when they were dealing with trade barriers. we. $6 billion of debt relief for farmers who are on the margins and is one of the reasons i tolerate politics and. i'm an elected official but i, i am not love with politics. i'm in love with change and tolerate politics because every now and then you're able to do something amazing. like $6 billion of debt relief for farmers farmers. and much of this along time, a long time coming. and also this year, we every five years you do something called the farm bill, which interestingly links the concerns of farmers and agribusiness but also food security and nutrition programs like ten of temporary aid for needy families. those programs that that we've used to give people basic security in this country, they're all part of the farm bill that gets done every five years. so i'm on committee. i was saying this morning in wors

congressman mike cloud, a member of the house oversight and accountability committee and the agriculture committee are going to be heading to the border in yuma, arizona, to hold hearings on the border situation. the democrats decided they don't want to go, and they have all kinds of excuses for why they don't want to go. but i just wonder, count it suggest -- doesn't it suggest sort of the brokenness of the congress right now that the two sides can't get together for simple things like a hearing on the security of our southern border? >> well, right now you see oftentimeses from the left they don't want to be a part of any sort of conversation that that they can't completely control the narrative. and, you know, we've sat through four years of their hearings and very little action done on the border. now they don't want to go with us to the border and really they don't know why. of they were definitely informed that the hearing was going to happen, but unfortunately they're not wanting to be a part of a real hearing at the border where they have to face the facts of what's going op. jon: yeah. so
