i'm jessica aguirre. yep, here we go again. most bay area counties are recommending we all mask up again indoors, regardless of whether you're vaccinated or not. the only two places not making that move is napa and solano counties. alameda, marin, contra costa issued an order to again wear masks indoors. the reason? the more infectious delta variant helping to drive up a spike in cases. here's a look at what's going on in the bay area. the curve is from the department of health and san francisco chronicle. it shows the average new cases since january. the right side the rises in the past month. although we're not seeing as many as the winter surge, we are being asked to mask up. 76% of the eligible resident vgs been vaccinated but it's not enough to keep cases from climbing. >> we have had a tripling in our number of covid cases over the last three weeks. and we think much of it may be to the rising, more transmissible delta variant. >> some businesses are already pivoting back to asking people to wear masks. >> it means it wil

i am jessica aguirre, governor newsom echoing national health leaders and calling this the pandemic of the unvaccinated. cases are rising and the majority of the people getting infected. this is the delta variant spreads at an alarming rate across the nation. yesterday alone, the u.s. reported 60,000 cases. 5500 of those were right here in california. even more troubling are states positivity rate is nearly 5%. it has been steadily rising over the last few days. 83% of cases nationwide are the delta variant. tonight three bay area counties, contra costa and santa clara and san francisco are asking employers to require workers to get the covid shot. nbc bay area's jodi hernandez spoke with business owners in contra costa county. >> reporter: a lot of fine dining are among a lot of businesses requiring employees to get vaccinated. some health officials are urging all employers to make vaccinations a condition of employment. employment had to wear masks and all 38 of them had to show owners proofs they have been vaccinated against covid-19. >> every single person who work in our place are
