because air force one isn't the name of the plane. for any air force jet carrying the president of the united states. today, we're taking a deep dive to look at the only american symbol that can get you from here to beijing in roughly 12 hours. typically, air force one referred to one of two highly customized boeing 747s. as tall as a six-story building. the 747 model replaced the smaller model under george h.w. bush. today's air force one has 4,000 square feet floor space inside and can comfortably carry about 100 passengers and crew. it includes a medical suite that can function as an operating room. not to mention the latest in communications technology and emergency countermeasures in case of an attack. it wasn't always so fancy. the first plane to be designated air force one was a 121. just 116 feet long. it made headlines earlier this year after it was discovered rusting at an arizona airport. the owner of the plane which carried president eisenhower in the late '50s is trying to house it in a museum but so far no takers. hello.
