shortly after that article went up, donald trump tweeted the comment about boeing and 747 and air forcene. there doesn't seem to be any other impetus for that. >> lara, before we get to that, the boeing and the air bus, and we're not going to give the contract to them. this has increased fuel capacity and counter measures for air-to-attacks, having said that what factually was right and wrong about what donald trump said and where is the air force one program? >> right, so donald trump's tweet that it was going to cost over $4 billion to buy the presidential aircraft is actually probably not far off. the government accountability office has estimated that it will be $3.2 billion in total to finish the program. and that is including research and development, which is the vast majority of money and procurement to buy two airplanes for fielding in 24 as well. of course boeing right now is only on contract for $170 million as we're in the very early stages of production. >> and there is a long lead time on these, right? the president who usually starts the process and orders them will never

but why would they be building a brand-new air force one?4 billion is a lot of dough. >> this is a stunner. the white house has been insistent that they need ultimately a new air force one. the official order was put in in 2015. it won't be finished until 2023, and at that point in time, air force one will be 32 years old. if you need more context, the plane that president obama currently traveled around in was put in order under president reagan. so the white house has been insistent that, look, they need to upgrade air force one. but there is no doubt the cost is quite high. but the broader question here, steph, is this essentially bullying businesses? what is going to come of this essential threat that the president-elect has made toward boeing. will he actually try to get this order canceled? we'll have to wait and see if in fact this does go through, but there's no doubt this is going to send shockwaves throughout washington. boeing, the business community, and the white house as well. again, a lot of them insistent that this was critic

admirals and air force generals briefing the president today.was a bit of a two-part briefing. not exactly sure what was covered there. but when you look down the list, one name stands out to me immediately. lieutenant general jack weinstein, strategic deterrents and nuclear integration.
