ajit: i still will have to figure out what the next adventure is. am hopeful it will be as stimulating and rewarding as the past four years have been. it has been the ride of a lifetime in his position and i cannot wait to see what comes next. emily: certainly, the new fcc or the reconstituted fcc will be taking on new issues, including section 230. what do you think will be the big issues that will define the next tenure of the fcc? ajit: our work to close the digital divide, getting more americans connected to the internet, our work to promote american leadership in 5g, including finishing last week the largest spectrum auction in american history. working with consumers including robo calls and establishing 988 as a number for suicide prevention and health. i am hopeful that the fcc will as well. as i told our team, i will be rooting for them from afar because the next fcc's success will be america of trieste success. emily: he decided not to move forward with a proposal to limit the liability shield and take action on section 230. it has been qu

ajit: i did not.ne of the things that i have made a point of doing over the last four years is maintaining the agency's independence. on whatever issue it is, i have always said and always will say that we look at the law, look at the facts, then we make an independent determination. it can be something as arcane as a pole attachment dispute, or something as big as the social media executive order. , we began this conversation talking about section 230 and your desire to look at it and perhaps make a rulemaking. what are the disappointments of the last four years? what did you not get done? ajit: that's a good question. i am hard-pressed to think of anything we didn't do. i think the hallmark of this agency, if you look at just the productivity statistics, we have been the most productive, the most impressive agency in history across the board in advancing the public interest, simply in terms of the productivity, for example, we've handled an average of six items per meeting at our public meeting. we

. >> host: chairman ajit you have also say that's been reform but where does the money each consumerho contributes to the usf, where does that go now? >> guest: right now it goes into a pot and you will see a line item at the bill with the universal service fee and that money goes into a pot that is then handled on behalf of the fcc by called the universal service and ministry of company. there are four different programs within the usf that we have for the rural healthcare program, lifeline program and the high-cost program and the high cost is where the rural digital opportunity fund to place bread we read is to be that money that we collect to the usf to each of those different programs and we have how to structure those programs which is one of the reasons why our innovations in term of the reverse auction format and accountability is so very important and these are or a very radically different way than the usf traditionally operated before i took office and it used to be we checked rural telephone, and insight we hope uses money to build out broadband but now because of the rev
