lastly, after the shooting ends, akron police officers went to mr.rovided first aid to save his life. one officer on a body cam footage can be heard saying he still has a pulse. as the officers were getting ready to put him into a police car to get him as quickly as possible to the hospital, akron fire medics arrived on scene. they took over aid, and unfortunately, mr. walker tragically passed at the scene. i'm going to say this. when an officer makes the most critical decision in his or her life as a police officer, it doesn't matter where in the country this happens. when they make the most critical decision to point their firearm at another human being and pull the trigger, they've got to be ready to explain why they did what they did. they need to be able to articulate what specific threats they were facing, and that goes for every round that goes down the barrel of their gun. and they need to be held to account. right now as you point out, we're in the early stages of the investigation. the officers have not been able to provide a statement yet.

so when that, when that shooting occurred, i wasn't here in akron. i just got here last august. and you know, i'm trying to go back in memory, but i can't recall exactly what we did as a profession following that. but i can tell you that we, we train in this police department, we go above and beyond in the police academy, the minimum required hours of training when it comes to firearms. additionally, we go above and beyond the minimum requirement by the state for annual qualifications. and so i really can't answer fully that question. just question about, is there any kind of like a protocol when multiple offers are hiring for how many rounds you fire? so officers are trained to when they, when they perceive a threat to themselves or to somebody else that they will, they are authorized to use their firearm to stop the threat. and they are authorized to use their firewall firearm until that threat no longer exists. sports stops, and that is, that is the standard as your main or the back a is there also a video cover of the movie? so we don't have dash cameras in our fleet? no, si

but tonight, we start in akron. joining me now, congresswoman chantal brown, democrat of ohio, whose district includes akron. congresswoman, thank you for joining us. after another tough week for your akron district, three days after his shooting death, for acting calm police, you called on the department of justice to monitor the investigation of jalen walker's killing. given how graphic the akron police body camera footage is in its depiction of walker's last moments, and the fact that at least eight officers are currently on administrative leave for the role in the shooting, why do you feel the justice department's involvement is necessary here, and what can you tell us about its response thus far. >> well, first of all thank you for having the reverend sharpton. i would say that i joined the family of jalen walker and the african american community in mourning this tragic loss. i wrote a letter to the doj don't see the investigation because the family should be assured that a full and fair investigation will be

short and sweet, akron police officials say, they will begin offering daily press briefings. the goal, they say, is to continue to keep the public up to speed after seeing these regularly-occurring the missed rations in the city of akron since the death of locker. you will recall, the 25-year- old was shot and killed by eight akron police officers about two weeks ago. the shooting, captured on police body cam a video, it has been scrutinized, not just by the walker family, but also members of the public, protesters, calling on accountability when it comes to the actions of those police officers. at the same time, we have also seen many peaceful demonstrations on a few occasions, leading to some violent clashes on the streets of akron. what the police chief has described as threats against his police officers over the weekend with police chief steve millett, writing, we have received death threats with officers' names being posted, news from the fbi about violence coming to our city, and posing as resident demonstrators perpetuating violence. these are not excuses, he writes,

you were at the akron news conference when the video was released.ak down this disturbing video for us. >>. >> reporter: so what this does, ripe, it essentially shows you the moments leading up to and during the shooting. we will play portions in a few moments. it is extremely upsetting. it is extremely disturbing. but law enforcement we leasing that just five days after that monday shooting, hoping that it would be adding for context to what took place here. before we roll that footage, it's important to roll out what police say initially was perceived to be a threat, which is when they tried to pull over walker, police saying that during that vehicle pursuit, they not only heard what sounded to be like gun fire but also from the ohio department of transportation video that was basically showing the highway, you see what appears to be a single muzzle flash from inside the vehicle that walker was driving. now, a few minutes after that, that's when this vehicle pursuit turns into a foot pursuit and that's when according to police chief here, the eight

what do you make about -- of this situation in akron? >> so, you're in highland park right now.gle shooter, discharged something close to 70 rounds. it was a mass shooting. catastrophe, a tragedy. these eight officers discharged 90 rounds, 9-0. 60 of which went into one body. you're talking earlier about how ar-15 style weapons shred the body. it's not like a hand held pistol. but 60 rounds in an individual. there is no one who is that dangerous. there is no way that you can justify it. it's just grotesque. and so, we'll talk about in the weeks and months to come the failures of training and we'll talk about the reasonableness standard of, well, they thought there was a gun and he was wearing a ski mask and that led the officers to fear. but what on earth are we going to be able to say that says 90 rounds, 60 of which go into a single body, is the way in which anybody is kept safe? my response to this is the same as most folks that i see in these communities which is that this is a ridiculous thing that we pay for to then have to watch someone die that way. >> so what is the res

we do want to warn you many viewers may find the video disturbing. >> newly-released akron police body camera video reveals that on june 27th at 12:30am, police attempted to pull over a car for a traffic violation and a broken tail light. the driver 25 year-old jaylin walker refused to stop and led police on a pursuit. a short time later, officers report hearing a shot fired from the car and see a muzzle flash, a gun and loaded magazine relator found on the driver's seat of jalen walker's the police chief of akron says at that moment, the nature of the pursuit and how officers would react changed dramatically and went from being a routine traffic stop. to now public safety issue after the shot was fired. additional officers joined the pursuit. 6 minutes after the chase began. it ended when jalen walker stopped his car and jumped out of the passenger seat. he then began to run. investigators say 2 officers deployed tasers but to no effect. officers chased jaylin walker through a parking lot. a short time later, 8 officers fired an estimated 90 rout. we're told jaylin walker was hit at l

cnn's polo sandoval is live in akron with the latest.rter: good morning to you, brianna, as it begins to rain in downtown akron, i can tell you that actual curfew has been actually allowed to expire. the results have been a quiet evening, obviously, no obvious signs, in sharp contrast to what we witnessed yesterday morning when residents here in the city of akron woke up to damaged store fronts to vandalized city property. and at least 50 arrests which actually took place on sunday night into monday. the charges of these individuals ranging anything from a failure to disperse, to rioting, a combination of residents from the city and also from surrounding communities but again, last night, though, a very different story. as it appears that that curfew that was implemented yesterday and will be in place indefinitely by city officials seemed to work. we have to remember that the walker -- jayland walker's family has been joining city officials and pleading with the public to remain peaceful and patient as the investigation into last week's

polo sandoval joins us now from akron.ant body cam police footage tomorrow. what is the family saying about that footage. >> reporter: they haven't been able to see that footage quite yet. one of the attorneys has seen it, what he was able to witness in that video, it was an event that he describes as not just, quote, indescribable but also unspeakable. now, in terms of how this all started, this was a monday just shortly after midnight when akron police officers tried to carry out a traffic stop, and we've learned from the information available so far that walker was believed to have been behind the wheel refusing to stop, and then the vehicle chase basically started. at one point according to akron police, officers reported a firearm was discharged from inside that vehicle before the occupant basically bailed out of the car, and the result was a foot chase, and this is what's key. according to akron investigators, they're saying that the actions of the suspects caused officers to perceive -- that's the keyword -- perceiv
