i got an update from alameda police. they tell me that they're still checking with area hospitals to see if perhaps that second suspect came in looking for treatment for a gunshot wound. they think he may have been shot in a confrontation here as he was leaving the bonfair market. police are still taking pictures and gathering evidence in a robbery where the suspects' luck ran out. they started getting 911 calls of a robbery in progress after 10:30 last night here on high street in santa clara. what they're saying is that two armed men with masks on in dark clothes with guns came inside the store, but talk about timing. an off-duty alameda county sheriff's deputy was inside, too. we're told he had about 20 years' experience. there was a confrontation. one of the suspects shot and killed, the other possibly shot, and all of this while two employees were inside. one in the stockroom, one cashier who saw it go down. they're unharmed. police say it isn't the first time the bonfair market was hit like this. >> the store was r

deadly officer involved shooting in alameda. two armed gunmen an off duty sheriffs deputy. paul chambers is joining us from just outside that market located on high street. paul. >> reporter:th investigation is -- the investigation is now entering hour eight. this was the scene of the attempted robbery. here's what we do know. police say just after 10:30 last night alameda police say two armed men wearing masks or something covering their face came inside the bond fair market here on the 1500 block of high street. according to police there were two employees inside. one in the stock room and the other at the register. they attempted to rob the store when they came in contact with an off duty alameda county sheriffs deputy who was already inside. >> the deputy ended up shooting and killing one of the suspects who was armed. and possibly shot the second suspect. >> >> reporter: investigators are look into area hospitals to see if anyone had been admitted for gunshot wounds. officers say according to witnesses statements they do no

the alameda -- about rabid bats.he warning came after a rabid bat bit a teenage volunteer at the oakland zoo on saturday. the county is printing up flyers, alerting people living near the oakland zoo. be on the alert for other rabid animals, but that warning goes far beyond the area of the zoo. this is a third rabid bat found in alameda county in just the past month. experts have this advice, if you happen to come face to face with a bat. >> they should call the public health department or animal control and definitely not touch these guys. >> the teenage volunteer that was pitten by the zoo is expected to make a full recovery. we did checking to find out just how many cases of rabid bats have been reported in the bay area this year. the numbers are broken down by county. marin and scare had -- santa clara had the most. these numbers were compiled by the state in the middle of june. alameda had zero at the time but as we just heard it's now seen three cases reported. >>> a big disturbance at a richard city council me
