alameda county sheriff deputies were trying to chase a stolen car suspect. they saw him in hayward and that chase ended up here at a dead end in a residential area. the suspect was cornered and, as you can see, trying to turn out of this dead end by backing out into that retaining wall. while he's backing, the deputy comes and gun drawn saying that this chase is over and it isn't. that's when the suspect, according to the sheriff's office drives the car at the deputy. the deputy unloads his gun and the suspect ends up crashing right here into the telephone pole. he and the female passenger taken into custody. video of the stolen a couple hours ago. you can perhaps see that the gunshots hit the hood and definitely the windshield of the car, what you can't see is one of the bullets actually struck the driver's head rest. remarkably the drive, the suspect was not hurt. no injuries in this. but that suspect a 26-year-old man from hayward known to police and had a warrant, outstanding warrant for evading arrest is now in custody. bob redell, "today in the bay." >
