alameda is no exception. a debate last night sparked a bloody skirmish outside city hall. >> [yelling] >> video posted on youtube showed police pinning down and handcuffing a protester outside counsel chambers. the man's face was cut during that arrest causing him to plead on the floor. the man was part of a group that tried to force its way inside city hall chambers. he had been banking on a table and had refused to stop. shortly afterwards he was arrested. city staffer was reportedly injured during this ordeal and all of this was happening right outside the council chambers when the council was set to vote on a two-month moratorium on rent increases and evictions. according to witnesses at that meeting, the landlords who opposed that moratorium arrived early and filled the council chambers so there was no more space for members of that tenants group to go inside and voice their concerns. >> and after 25 landlords spoke and only four renters, people began chanting in the hallways. they finally said, i'm not

alameda county sheriff's deputies say it ended not far from interstate 880. >> "today in the bay" bob redell is live with the details on what happened, bob. and the ultimate result here, an officer firing his weapon. >> but, fortunately, no one was hurt. the suspect taken into custody. you can see here still an active scene at ricardo and shirley. this is a block away where the stop took place. alameda sheriff detectives just arrived on the scene and started to arrive within the past 15 to 20 minutes and the stolen car in question, you can't see, down there to the right of that dead end. around midnight that alameda county sheriff deputies started chasing the driver of the stolen car and this was on surface streets. about a five to ten-minute chase. that's about a mile from here. the suspect with no knowledge of the local roads ended up driving down into a dead end. the suspect was cornered feeling trapped. the alameda county sheriff's office told us he then drove his cars towards deputies feeling threatened. that's when one deputy started firing their weapon. they missed the suspect,

alameda county sheriff deputies were trying to chase a stolen car suspect. they saw him in hayward and that chase ended up here at a dead end in a residential area. the suspect was cornered and, as you can see, trying to turn out of this dead end by backing out into that retaining wall. while he's backing, the deputy comes and gun drawn saying that this chase is over and it isn't. that's when the suspect, according to the sheriff's office drives the car at the deputy. the deputy unloads his gun and the suspect ends up crashing right here into the telephone pole. he and the female passenger taken into custody. video of the stolen a couple hours ago. you can perhaps see that the gunshots hit the hood and definitely the windshield of the car, what you can't see is one of the bullets actually struck the driver's head rest. remarkably the drive, the suspect was not hurt. no injuries in this. but that suspect a 26-year-old man from hayward known to police and had a warrant, outstanding warrant for evading arrest is now in custody. bob redell, "today in the bay." >

>> really, just within the last hour, alameda county's health director het with the head of the county's department of health over seeing the cleanup. they need to do more investigating before declaring a health emergency. scott hagerty and his office are now trying to figure out if the county could legally force the oil company to truck in clean water residents while the county waits for the test results to find out if water supplies near the oil field are contaminated. hagerty's chief of staff tells us the county's response so far has been, quote, appalling. inspection reports we obtained say hazardous waste leaked into the, so much so that other documents say it may have contaminated underground drinking water supplies in livermore. e & b natural resources owns the property and is still working to clean up the soil. it discovered the leak more than seven months ago. they were legally obligated to notify state and local regulators and never did until they were cited by inspectors for not doing so. according to the state, there are about 400 wells within a 2,000 foot radius of the leak.
