alameda county sheriff's deputies are investigating a murder-suicide in san lorenzo this morning. deputies were called to a home on via amigo and via lucas to find a husband and wife dead. he allegedly killed her and then himself. >> we don't believe there is any danger outside to the community. we believe it's confined to the home. there were other people in the home when this happened. >> sheriff's deputies don't believe anyone else in the home was atarget. they are now releasing more details -- they are not releasing more details presenting the investigation. >>> vta has now fully restored light rail service in a san jose neighborhood after a woman was killed by a train. she was struck by a train. the woman was walking on the tracks in dark clothes and the train had no time to stop. the train was out of service at the time heading back to it the railyard. >>> a man and woman from watsonville are in custody accused of stealing christmas gifts from homes in san jose's rose garden area. earlier this month police say they broke into six houses on lauralei avenue on the same night.

vehicle behind me you see is for an emergency not related to the cold weather, but the coroner in alameda county is investigating whether a man found lifeless in hayward was a victim of hypothermia, as those four victims in santa clara county and the one man in dublin. the folks who work with homeless people here in the bay area say this is just one part of what is an affordable housing crisis. each of these flags is a homeless person in san jose. for five years, anita miles was one of them. >> i didn't want to be out there. definitely. i'd never been homeless before, but here i was in my own community, homeless. >> reporter: miles is now an ehc life builders outreach worker going to the homeless where day are to urge them into shelters, deliver supplies and sometimes she says to drape an extra blanket on a sleeping person and make sure they're still breathe. >> you don't want to give up what's keeping you alive and that's your belongings or pets. >> reporter: shelters are hard to come by. there are ten homeless people for every one bed in santa clara county's shelters. that's the short-term sol

that's in santa clara, alameda counties alone. new numbers just in for santa clara are saying between december 13 and the 27th there were 338 people arrested. 17 of them on christmas day. that's up from last year. in alameda county, 541 people were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. the dui checkpoints will continue throughout this weekend and into the new year's holiday. the holiday season will never be the same for a livermore familiar whose daughter was killed by an alleged drunk driver. christina chesterman was riding her bicycle on her way home from school when she was run over. since then, the family's focus has been to battle drunk driving including setting up a memorial foundation to address driving while intoxicated. kron4 shows us how the family is remembering the 21-year-old this holiday season. >> reporter: family, eating and laughter. that's part of the holiday cheer. but even with all of the support, christine non's parents deal with the pain of losing a child from a drunk driver. >> still

alameda county sheriff's deputies are investigating a christmas morning tragedy.tvu's tara moriarty is there at the scene with what appears to be a mudd suicide. tara -- murder-suicide. tara? >> reporter: unbeknownst to people who didn't live in the home, the couple was reportedly experiencing marital problems. this is a horrible tragedy to happen on christmas day. a witness says that the husband shot his wife, killing her and turned the gun on himself. the 17-year-old son witnessed the ent tire thing -- entire thing. we're on the corner of via amigos and via lucas. this happening around 2:00 this morning. the victim's sister said that her 36-year-old sister was shot by her husband, john. she suffered several gunshot wounds. then john killed himself, dying of a single gunshot wound to the head. all of the couple's four children were home at the time. the victim's sister said her nieces called her this morning with the news. >> they just told me they were having problems in their marriage. >> reporter: nobody expected something like this? >> no. no. we don't expect
