alameda county announcing a drop in homelessness overall but 1 city is behind on that trend. good afternoon. i'm ryan yamamoto, alameda county just released a snapshot of its homelessness picture countywide. homelessness has dropped by 3% with unsheltered homelessness decreasing from 11%. from 2022. they also say there was a 19%. increase in people accessing shelters, but in alameda county's largest city, oakland the number of homeless people that actually went up by 9% over the last 2 years. still, that is less of the trend from 2015 to 2022. when oakland average increases of 32% 32%. between between counts. county leaders say they're encouraged by the progress, but they acknowledge much more work needs to be done. and san francisco also in the spotlight for its homelessness crisis. and this morning, merrill canada, daniel lurie announced his plan to tackle the issue. and that home run strategy will focus on building more. interim housing and opposed to just permanent how which loury says takes takes many years to permit and build. leaving more people out on the streets. wel

$20 million on a standalone special election is something that we just cannot afford here in alameda county want our county services to be protected. many who spoke today supported the idea of an earlier standalone election, saying da prices soft on crime policies are costing lives. she has failed. everybody knows it. the sooner the better. we cannot wait till november to do something about this. the people of alameda county need help. now, just to add one more wrinkle to the story, there's a group here today that not only doesn't want this election to be on november 5th, they don't want it to happen at all. they say that the way this got onto the ballot in the first place was illegal. a group called the campaign to protect the wind of pamela price says they're planning to go to court to stop the recall election. they say the registrar of voters took too long to verify the signatures on the recall petition. they violated a key provision of the charter that gave them ten days to verify those signatures. they took over a month to verify the signatures, price says the recall campaign was funde

this is a victory for the people of alameda county.his is a win for democracy fighting back against critics who say she's soft on crime, price claims her office has actually prosecuted people at a higher rate than her predecessor. the district attorney is also blasting recall organizers, claiming their efforts are fueled by misinformation and being bankrolled by big money opponents. they are essentially making things up without any kind of foundation or any understanding actually, of how prosecution works. she has to face this recall election. one thing i have to say stop using our tax dollars and using your office hours and campaigning. carl chan, one of the recall organizers, is calling the election date a significant milestone in his group's efforts to advocate for public safety and accountability. so you got elected. absolutely. we agree. okay. but when you're not doing a good job, you know, performing as a da, as a capacity, okay? and also, you know, she is the reason the driving force to having all these additional serious crimes
