good morning to you, alan. - good morning, angie. i am not trying to be the smart guy, i am just not trying to be dumb. there have been a lot of folks who have been trying to pick this top in the last four years, and look where it's got them. so, i look at this as an opportunity. everybody was saying, "i want a 5% sell-off, i want a 5% sell-off." that's what we have. now what do you do? - what do you do? - i am looking at this as a level we can lean on in the s&p. the s&p at 1600, i think, is important. that was the objective, technically, for a long time, and we achieved that. obviously, we exceeded it. it will be important to see how we hold the support at 1600. as a trader, reward-to-risk, you can lean on that and see if that holds on a weekly basis. but some of the other indicators, if you look at bonds, bonds are not rallying. we are not seeing fear, we are not seeing flight to quality. bonds actually made year lows just last wednesday, and we're still not to the halfway point of that little bounce from those recent highs. so, i

that's why it is a great morning that we're going on be joined by alan greenspan. he is ow newsmaker of the day, joining us exclusively at 7:30 eastern tim. so we look at his take on what all these numbers mean, on what he thinks the fed could and should be doing right now. u.s. equities reports are mixed. the s&p futures are up by about half a point. the dow futures down by about 5.5 points. and early european trading this morning, you will see some very similar nonmoves at this point. it's flat across the board. in asia, this is a huge story. the nikkei slid another 1.7% overnight. it is right around bear territory at this level. they have been looking at down 19%. it was down by even more during the trading session. we are in bear territory now for the nikkei. that is a huge issue, as well. this comes after a gain of about 75% from mid november through may. joe, over to you. >> i'm hurrying because i'm doing my -- i just decided to go to the lows. if we're going to do the interday high on the s&p -- >> how about on the nikkei, too? >> no. i'm done with the nikke

"the guardian" calls for verizon to hand over customer information on a daily basis from early last april until this july 19th. the fbi and the national security agency are tracking the numbers foretell phone calls in and outside the u.s. they are also documenting telephone calling card numbers and the time and duration of those calls. but the court order does not call for them to monitor actual conversations or gather names and addresses. the likely explanation is the protection of national security. the legal director of the frontier foundation believes this crosses the line. >> i don't think the law authorizes this. section 215 of the patriot act does not say it is okay to spy on the entire country in case a couple of people happen to be something illegal. there is nothing in the patriot act tha
