this week, madam president, we're celebrating the 50th anniversary of congress' passage of the alaska nativelement act, what we call in alaska, ancsa, the largest settlement of indigenous land claims certainly in america, probably in the world. really successful act. not perfect. very innovative. but it's been litigated like crazy. we had a case from the ninth circuit several years ago that essentially said ancsa created reservation land throughout the entire state of alaska. that would have changed the history of alaska forever. of course the ninth circuit got it wrong. that case went up to the supreme court, 9-0, the supreme court smacked down the ninth circuit. ancsa didn't do that. that's not what congress intended. you think it would be good for these judges this week if i could sit down with this to help them understand that? it would be really good, really important. it would help them for their jobs. just this year the d.c. circuit on another ancsa related case, the chialas case got ancsa wrong again. the supreme court ruled on it four months ago, a huge victory for my state again. w

in the end randy was honored by an alaska native corporation the gold belt corporation. they had been engaged in an airlift, significant airlift, and she was recognized by gold belt for her dedicated efforts assisting them throughout that whole ordeal. so it's nice to know that she had received not only the recognition and thanks from those here, fellows back in alaska, but also the broader international recognition. so i take this moment to just express my thanks to randy. it was a pleasure having her in my office. she has a fabulous family. it was a great pleasure to be able to get to meet her husband, brad, an air force veteran himself. they've got three super great little kid, charlie, ryan, and graham. but i wish randy and her family nothing but the best as she moves forward with her military career. i feel very fortunate that we get some of our nation's best who are able to take kind of a little bit of a detour through their professional trajectory in the military, to come here, work with us, share their level of expertise, and also educate themselves on the intern
