this is a collection formed by albert h. small of the university -- university alineup in us and property developer in washington, d.c. as you enter the gallery, you'll see the key item in the collection, something that took mr. small quite a few years before he had the chance to acquire it and this is one of 26 known copies of the very first printing of the declaration of independence printed on the evening of july 4, 1776, in philadelphia, by printer john dunlap. it really is the key printing for american history. the first printing of america's founding documents. we're not quite sure how many copies were printed. perhaps upward of 400 single sheet broad sides. 26 survive. and interestingly enough, two of the 26 copies are here in the albert and shirley small special collection library. mr. small's copy is one of the finest known. and has a very interesting provenance and we can trace the ownership back to the early 19th century and owned by a name of tobias lear, george washington's last personal secretary. and there's a

but albert's been painted dot by dot, and i've been promised i too can achieve artistic genius with theools. believe it or not, these pictures have all been painted with spray paint. they've been pieced together splodge by splodge by the sprayprinter device. my daughter wanted a unicorn on her wall, but i couldn't draw. so that pushed me towards creating this device. to make these magical masterpieces you need the right kit — a smartphone with the appropriate app installed, an external battery pack to keep it fullyjuiced, a tripod to hold it steady, some paint, and of course the sprayprinter. first you select an image and align it against the area you want to paint. so the image is projected like a giant virtual sticker. portraits with shadows work best. the phone's camera exposes for the led on the device, and when it illuminates, it sends the can's location to the app. the phone then tells the printer its coordinates and the printer decides when to spray and when not to. once you get the knack of it, it's actually surprisingly simple to use. you just have to make sure you go from left
