it is an alberta clipper originate nothing alberta canada it moves so fast. winter weather advisory go into effect for southeastern pennsylvania, south jersey and the entire state of delaware. when we're talking about an advisory we have a light accumulation of snow. temperatures in the the 20's and 30's out to the north and west, look at these numbers ten in cleveland. three in chicago. that cold is coming. that is why it is a light fluffy snow. our computer models showing between half inch and almost 2 inches of snow and right the now we are looking at one to 2 inches of snow at best. that is usually what a clipper brings i light snow accumulation in time for the morning commute and expect some visibility, and coming up we will talk about the bitter cold and well below zero. and that seven day forecast. it is pretreating road all daze, trying to get ahead of that storm. penndot says it has plenty of storm salt on hand and a a whole lot of manpower. >> penndot will have 182 state trucks, ready to move out in the highway, when the snow begins falling tuesday

hello from calgary, alberta, canada. this is the heart of oil country. almost every major canadian oil and gas company is based right here. some people call it the houston of canada. it's got the building boom and job growth that would be analogous to houston, if you would. the reason that we're here is a couple of fold. number one, this is a big part of the oil story. canada produce a couple million barrels of oil a day. on the margin, they are more negatively impacted by the lower prices. you also have about 70 canadian companies that trade in the u.s. 15 of those are major oil and gas companies. this is a direct u.s. market impact as well. let's not forget that canada is america's number one trading partner. it's not china or germany or japan. it is canada. about 18% of all u.s. trade is done with canada. more than $300 billion in exports coming to this country. if that slows down, if the canadian economy takes a hit, the u.s. could take a hit as well, and let's not forget about the canadian dollar that's down about 20%. all this hour we have a bunch

so you can follow the cold front and it goes into an alberta clipper coming across southwest ontario. as that moves eastward tomorrow and tomorrow night, it will develop into a big storm southeast coast of maine. it will dump another five to six inches on boston and maybe a foot, a little bit more over bangor and places inland like that. we'll get fairly quiet weather as far as temperatures go with westerly winds tomorrow. it will be probably towards midday when the wind will pick up out of the northwest and that will start drawing in much colder air. figures into the future cast as well. if you look into tomorrow fair amount of clear skies. what you don't see is the strong wind field that will be developing. snow showers in the mountains. for us a lot of sunshine but very windy. we'll be in the 30's. temperatures fall tomorrow afternoon and tomorrow night. by saturday we'll only hit 30 for a high despite the sunshine. and then we get into sunday and we have to deal with this. another storm system developing. snow to the north. simulated rain to the south. where will it go? will it go

they say gunfire broke out on thursday at a home in calgary, alberta. local media report the victims appeared to be men and women in their 20s and 30s. about 50 people were at the home at the time. authorities say they're now looking for a gunman or gunmen who fled the scene after the shooting. >> the motive remains under investigation. it's unclear what the motivations were for this incident was. >> the incident took place just a few days after a man shot eight people to death, including his family, in the city of edmonton also in alberta. the man took his own life after the rampage. >>> a british ngo tracking violence in iraq says civilian casualties have been climbing since u.s. troops withdrew in 2011. members of iraq body count released their file numbers for 2014, and they're attributing the rise in deaths in part to the expansion of the militant group islamic state. group officials say more than 17,000 iraqis were killed last year. it's roughly double the number recorded in 2013 which was double the 2012 number. the group said more than 4,000 civ

in forecasting this one thing about these alberta clippers is they are unpredictable. as the storm develops, it can get worse as time goes on in a very unpredictable fashion, can't it? >> they can sometimes go through harmlessly. they start in canada and come down through the midwest. sometimes they reach the coast and the flow is progressive and it kind of goes east to west. maybe they blow up off the coast, but they don't do the hook. if you look at the weather map, this stuff that came down from minnesota earlier today, this is what is responsible. this surge is diving south. we have snow heading for areas of tennessee with this. this is hooking down. that is causing everything to bend backwards. we call it a negative tilt. that's what changed with this forecast. that's what captured the alberta clipper that is making it stall out here and now it is feasting on the warm waters of the gulf stream. sometimes this can happen. the reason this one is so unprecedented is we're going to see this heavy band of snow over eight and ten hours and thunder snow. that band is not

clouds thickening and snow showers picking up here across portions of alberta and sasachawan. it zips across the great lake region tomorrow and arrives for us. right now, it looks as though the timing has slowed down a little bit by a couple of hours. so if it comes a little later in the day, as the temperatures are starting to get colder, it looks like it may be mainly snow as opposed to more of a widespread mix of rain or snow. that said, our models have been all over the place. every single one brings this clipper through it's how much does it bring? the one thing that has been very consistent is that philadelphia the city itself, would likely pick up a coating to 2". if we pick up any more than that though, this if the system decides it wants to grab moisture we could see more than the coating to 2" but primarily south. at least that's the latest model thinking. so this is sort of a fluid situation. it's one of those things you wants to stay on top of and bottom line is this clipper it coming. it will bring snow and some of you could see more than a coating to inch. for no

kind of attached to an alberta clipper that's slicing through the lakes. as that front goes by this clipper will move across new york state and hit the ocean and blow up into a significant storm center and then dump snow across northern northeastern new england especially maine and eventually into nova scotia. that's where they'll get more heavy snow. for us we'll see a chilly day tomorrow. be in the mid 30's. we'll have some sun and gusty winds and off to the west see what i'm saying by the winds coming out of the west? not terribly cold. it's warmer in pittsburgh than it is here. 49 incharleston. and charleston west virginia is 32 in indianapolis. we'll be fine. cold air comes back to town late tomorrow night and saturday. as that storm moves out, the futurecast shows the wind direction coming more out of north and into canada. saturday will be sunny but very cold. highs in the 30 degrees for a high and then as we get through saturday night this high will move out of the way and the stage is set for an approaching area of low pressure from the west. the

area of canada, in the province of alberta. since 1990, the greenhouse gas footprint of oil produced in the oil sands has gone down 28% okay because of better drilling techniques because of co-generation, because of other processes that have been put in place, the greenhouse gas emissions on a per-barrel basis for the oil-producing oil sands has gone down by almost a third 28%. and right now major companies are continuing sphat amendment is amendment -- not only to produce more oil in the oil sands but find a way to produce the greenhouse gas and do something called carbon capture and sequestration, carbon capture and storage. and i will just touch on two of those for a minute and then relinquish the floor to the good senator from vermont because there is more that i will pick up on this environmental aspect as we debate this legislation as well as this whole issue of making sure that we get our country to energy security. but let me just touch for a minute on two projects. exxon is one of the companies that produces oil up in

we call them alberta clippers. they generally come from the alberta section of canada and they move along at a fast clip and here is the latest future cast out of this. as we go into tomorrow pretty light to very light, and the atmosphere will be dry at the start, so some of that first snow may evaporate. so i'm really not expecting much in the way of accumulation. the latest future weather model showing as we go into tomorrow by 6:00 a.m. practically nothing. maybe a little bit in lancaster county developing and then as we go into the early afternoon, we're totally up maybe an inch in parts of the area. now, it will be cold enough to stick on some of those colder surfaces, so we're going to have to keep an eye on that untreated surfaces is where we're likely to see that. well the arctic blast is during the day today. the temperatures dropping to about 29 by 6:00. tomorrow that light snow, maply lymainly in the morning but also mainly after the morning rush and then it's just bitter cold after that especially by th

we're seeing slow downs in alberta.a bunch of development sites out there, and sales are off what they were, but, again, duohottest markets last year were ed monton and calgary with 10 % volume growth last year and 6% in calgary price growth and 5% in edmonton. hot provinces last year. that's not sustainable anyway. >> glad to hear you say that. look at 1986, oil prices like this, i had people remind me that homes sold for a dollar, one dollar in 86 when the price bust in oil happened. what do you think? >> yes, in 86 and 91 and 2008, we had bad recessions. we're not in recession. our country's expanding and has expanded at 2 since the last recession, really. and you're -- your country's now expanding, so we're not expecting a recession in canada, but i think we are looking at certain provinces performing worst than last year. also, no one can believe that oil prices are going to fall forever. this is a resource that's very expensive to extract from the ground. there's only a few places in the world making money in oil.

we're looking at tuesday, the alberta clipper is going to move through, bring us some snow. news timewise that's going to happen during the daytime hours. by thursday wednesday night into thursday we're looking at a cold blast. bitter cold arctic air, temperatures in the 20s, windchills below zero at night. we're looking at clearing skies to get the clouds out of here. we're going to wake up to mostly sunny skies tomorrow morning. 53 in philadelphia mild. temperatures to the north and west mainly in the 40s, 48 in pottstown, 39 in mt. pocono. 52 in bensalem. still in the low 50s, 52 in atlantic city and 53 in dover. a mild night. we'll see the temperatures dropping overnight. it's mild right now. we have the mild air in place. we're going to see the temperatures drop into the 30s by the morning, so getting the kids back to school, the bus stops are going to dress for the 30s, windchills a little colder than that. arctic air comes in wednesday night and thursday we're seeing daytime highs in the 20s and windchills in the teens. winds gusting up to 20 miles an hour right now.

the next issue is going to be alberta clipper coming in for wednesday. here is future cast.e have it coming in. this is wednesday morning, late morning. not for the morning rush. late morning here. then during the afternoon rush snow of course the best chance north and west of philadelphia greatest accumulation north and west, best chance of rain the farther south you go. this is more typical type of system than what we had last week with that snow at the shore. and then it moves out. but that pink area is a bit of an icy mix. nothing like yesterday morning but at least a period of some potential icy mixture of sleet and freezing rain. and as we go into wednesday evening, greatest amount of snow probably in the poconos. other areas north and west and the least amount of snow to the south and east. of course we'll update that this afternoon as new computer data comes in. tuesday is going to be dry, less windy than today. there's that snow to the north, rain to the south on wednesday. cold and windy on thursday. still cold friday and kind of chilly over the weekend as well. >>

i have actually been to the alberta area in canada. i visited several different places where they're extracting oil from the oil sands. i've seen the technology at work using natural gas in a cogeneration facility, which is a low-cost form of fuel. this is the highest level of technology being employed to produce energy for oh this nation, and i think our consumers are seeing the benefit of the production coming on the north american continent. it's changed the course of history, really, for this country an in the energy area, and we're seeing it at the pump with the lowest gas prices in years. >> you used the phrase "for this nation," and i've heard it a lot in the last couple of weeks that the lyon share of the oil traveling through that pipeline isn't intended to be used in the united states. >> that's unfortunate, but that is not true. the oil would be going to the refinery in houston, which are some of the best refineries in the world. there is a high level of regulation that occurs in this nation with our refineries, and it's bes
