the sunrise gathering on alcatraz island started about an hour ago and they will continue until about 9:00 this morning. activists will commemorate the bay area's american indian heritage and protest american colonization. government records show alcatraz was used by american indians as a hiding place trying to escape the mission system. it was a military base and a federal prison. >>> bringing the americas cup to the bay. moving the regatta further north on the waterfront would save san francisco tens of millions of dollars. a new plan would move the regatta to piers 10 through 29 instead of using pier 50. they say they should not be spending millions in the midst of a shortfall. runners will have a chance to burn off calories before the feast. the turkey trot kicks off at guadalupe river park. the races include the 5 k run, 10-k run and fun run for kids. 10,000 people are expected. organizers hope to raise $350,000 for three local charities including the food bank. our own bob redell will have a preview later this morning. >> today is say national holiday and local transportation wi
