this is an apartment building at alcatraz and king street.e roof but it's too early to say that fireworks were to blame. then further east, half a dozen grass fires, this is all out in east contra costa county. the skies were lit up with illegal fireworks. there were a lot of them and a lot of fires on the ground. this is mainly out on the bay point area. no injuries reported there. no structures burned and again, firefighters say it's too early whether fireworks were to blame but it would be quite a coincidence that it happened just on 4th of july. and then two house fires in brentwood, not fireworks this time but they think the barbecue grill is to blame. no injuries but very busy firefighters overnight especially in the east bay. other top story is being covered by terry mcsweeney. he is in our newsroom. what do you got for us? >> the story is taking place waters off of baja, california. a fishing boat sank. one tourist is confirmed dead, 19 have been rescued. as of all, 16 mexican crew members survived. they grabbed on to coolers and life

they had lots of fog for the escape from alcatraz this mortgage.s the fog bank has not gone very far away and the main weather maker here this weekend has been this little eddie off the coastline which has kept that fog bank from clearing out most of the weekend here. it did clear back to the beach today but it will move in again this evening and we'll see it first thing in the morning, giving way once again to some midday sunshine. probably a little later clearing tomorrow than what we saw today. temperature-wise we'll be in the mid-to low 80s out across the interior, mid-70s on the east bay, on the peninsula we'll look for mid-60s to upper 50s where the fog will probably linger a little longer due to a deep marine layer as it approaches the region. it will bring along slightly cooler air monday and tuesday, then the warm-up that i mentioned ann is going to hold me to. we'll continue through the weekend into the week and with that comes the chance of showers as well. tropical moisture out of the desert southwest. into southern california. could ma

the fog cleared by midday, kept the temperatures cool for the escape from alcatraz biathlon this morningnd brought lots of sunshine in a warmup to the ball park this afternoon so that's pretty good timing. this culprit for the fog continuation has been the eddie off the marin coast which has managed to keep the fog glued to the shortly here. most of the weekend. it's been just over my shoulder here, a minor feature, but it has a big impact on. we'll look for that low cloud deck to move back in. we had them for the low to mid- 80, 70s in the east bay, the pen anyone sue sue la. back to the coastline. several features moving in our direction. one this little ripple coming from the north, bring cooler air into the area for the beginning of the week. nothing dramatic, a sudden little change. subtropical moisture moving up which will move into the area for the weekend. could bring with it a chance solve some showers. but for the next couple days we'll look for a deeper marine layer and a slight cooling out there. again, pretty close to today's temperatures as we continue with our below-normal

potentially a hospitality event at alcatraz. that would not be a spectator area obviously for the difficulty of access. that is generally the picture for 2013. i think for 2012 you will see a similar picture except for the waterfront areas. those areas will be under construction. we're trying to move through that as quickly as possible to spread out the excitement a little bit, but also give a more attractive place for the teams and spectators to come to. our are reached to datout reachn really exciting. even those that would like to see the things improved in the current plans. we have had 3500 merchants and businesses. i actually just came from a liaison committee with a lot of excitement talking about the various opportunities for san francisco. obviously this is a key part of bringing on the promise of the america's cup. as i said, i think engagement in community feedback has been strong at the meetings and by written feedback. we have had a number of written documents posted on the web site, as well as posted at americascup
