a nine year old arizona boy recently completed the grueling two mile swim from alcatraz to san francisco, and if completing that trek weren't enough, he did it. after three heart surgeries for a congenital heart defect. his family and supporters are now sharing their inspiring story. here's reporter cameron pullum. >> even as a child, it seemed as though derek smith was born to swim. >> you know, i always wanted him to be a typical kid, you know, be able to do what other kids are able to do. >> it's a statement. his mom, gail, chuckles over these days, and for good reason. >> i am in disbelief every day like that. he's come as far as he has. >> you see, derek was born with a congenital heart defect that required multiple heart and airway surgeries before the age of four. and despite the obstacles it created in his life, keeping him from dreaming big wasn't one of them. >> i just like the challenge i like i really like to like, go on adventures and stuff, and i like to try new things. >> over the years, he's found his footing in the pool, swimming for the ability 360 narwhals, a team made

wednesday's daylight on the horizon as we would look from treasure island towards the golden gate of alcatrazting down to the 50s after we made it up to the 60s for most of the bay aread to, still holding on to 63 degrees today in san jose. another day of above average temperatures, where we might be a couple degrees warmer for the highs tomorrow, which will put us way above normal. it will be a chilly night tonight, not quite as cold for the past couple of nights. the past few mornings where we have woken up to the temperatures below freezing. some spots dipping to the upper 20s. and they will level off just a couple of degrees above freezing. 35 in petaluma and fairfield and around antioch and brentwood. temperatures around the bay, mostly in the low to mid-40s along the coast. and the temperatures in the santa clara valley, a mix of upper 30s and the 40s as well. but temperatures will warm up again without that fog, dry air will heat up very quickly. up to around or above 70 degrees in san jose. and most of our temperatures will make it up into the mid to upper 60s, which will be a good 8

clear skies as we look from our pier 39 camera at alcatraz. this is why we're in for another cold night. it was cold and frosty this morning. the low temperatures napa down to 30. livermore dropped to 26 degrees. mid 30s oakland airport, san jose. it is going to be cold once again. well, cold enough for snow in the mountains in southern california. they got soaked over the weekend, over an inch of rain in many areas for the wettest spots, and right now just a few showers are trailing behind that system. here in the bay area. we've got the clear conditions temperatures right now in the 50s and the 60s. bundle up tonight we have a frost advisory. 1 to 9 a.m. covers virtually all of the bay area. temperatures will drop in the coldest spots down to freezing, which means we will see frost once again. so six, 20, 40, 58, 30 you're starting to see those 40s inland, and by morning, we're starting to drop off into the 30s in many of our inland communities, where you will wake up to a little bit of ice on the ground. you know how it goes. those lawns ar
