. >> alec burns is a reporter with politico. thanks for joining us. >> thanks for having me. >> we heard john boehner say that the president would have a speech or remarks filled with myths here. so we wanted to take a look at what we heard and match up some of the accuracies. the president claims the health care bill will be deficit neutral. that's one of the things congressman boehner honed in on before the press conference. let's play what the president had to say. >> i've also pledged that health insurance reform will not add to our deficit over the next decade, and i mean it. in addition to making sure that this plan doesn't add to the deficit in the short term, the bill i sign must also slow the growth of health care costs in the long run. >> so is that a myth as congressman boehner said easterlier in the day? >> this is one of the issues where it's a little hard to tell exactly where the president might be fudging the facts a little bit. when you project out the deficit over a ten-year period, you get into a lot of differ

mars as our focus can alec guy the public's interest in science and engineering, give young people somethingim ute educational goals and provide rationale for global american space leadership. aldrin also argued the moon race was won 40 years ago. we've become fixated on the moon but having been there and stood on its surface i can tell you that the moon is a dead end for nasa. joining us now is the chief astronomer at the franklin institute and museum. does mr. aldrin have a point? should we forget the moon and focus on mars? what is the likelihood of seeing a mission to mars in the near future? >> the real way to frame it is that mars should be the long-term goal we want to achieve. it is a long reachout and presents all sorts of technological challenges but it's not to say it can't be done. the way i would put it is that if we make mars the long-term goal what we end up with is a lot of technological development that has to happen between now and then. that would probably include returning to the moon just so we can build up our chops for doing the space exploration out on other planets.
