hey, alex. yes.nd we're actually in an area. >> we're in malibu, and it's just because this is where we got off of a helicopter that we flew on with cal poly, cal fire looking at some of the damage. but we have spent most of our time since we've been here reporting this team in altadena, near the eaton fire. i mean, the expectation heading into tonight is still the concern about those high winds right there was they weren't as high as expected today and that is good. but fire officials have been very clear weather forecasters. that threat is not over. the high risk warnings for wind continues until tomorrow. the fire officials, they have said they have pre-positioned fire engines and patrol all across the la region, particularly in unimpacted high risk fire areas, because the concern is the possibility still for new fires. but they say they are ready for them and they have pre-positioned to be in a position to be able to respond. but when you look at the toll here, and that's what we saw today when w

alex wagner tonight starts right now. good evening, alex. evening, a palisades neighborhood in los angeles. as of right now, the fire has already burned more that know 1,300 acres of land, but the wind speed is expected to peak tonight between 10:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. local time. so there is real and significant fear that this fire could continue to spread and spread rapidly. around 30,000 residents of the pacific palisades and surrounding areas have been evacuated. one resident told the l.a. times the fire was moving so quickly that police started yelling for people to abandon their cars and telling residents to run for your lives. the l.a. times is also reporting that firefighters could be heard telling dispatchers over the radio that as many as 100 abandoned vehicles are blocking the road. you can see right here that authorities had to use a bulldozer to move the parked cars out of the way in order to let the firefighters through. right now there are no reports of injuries or deaths, but several structures have been destroyed and the fire

alex, thank you. as he just explained, parts of southern california are under a flash flood watch tonight. authorities are warning about the potential for those mudslides. let's bring in abc news meteorologist somara theodore. when are we expecting the heaviest rain? >> reporter: well, linsey, we're actually anticipating the heaviest rain tonight. taking a look at the radar, rain has been moving through southern california and will continue to pick up as we head through the overnight hours. warnings and watches already being put in place. a flash flood watch in effect until 4:00 p.m. tomorrow. it's there where we could see the mudslide and debris flow starting in santa clarita. 8:00 p.m., the heaviest of the rain hitting los angeles, california. as we move through the overnight hours, by 7:00 a.m., we'll see it move further inland. where there will be snow in higher elevations. this all tapering off by tomorrow evening. by the end of it all, they could see an inch of rain in some areas. linsey. >> lin
