ktvu's alex sadvige met with the principal and police to find out more about this bomb scare and another in the city just a few days before. >> right here. >> reporter: today principal angela hopkins points out where the device was found. >> i cannot tell you how lucky i feel because i know it had the ability to blow out the windows and hurt people. we have 700 little bodies to keep safe. >> reporter: all the students were moved to keep them safe. >> make sure there were no other devices in any of the other schools. >> reporter: after a frightening ordeal yesterday, parents are praising the job. >> they did a very good job, very responsive. >> reporter: here at the entrance of the school there's a surveillance camera pointed directly at these bushes where the pipeline were found. police right now are reviewing that video trying to figure out who left it here. the pipeline itself is being checked for fingerprints and trace evidence. so far investigators have not linked the pipe bomb to one that blew up in a mailbox saturday. the devices were constructed differently in each case. two teena

alex sadvige has the story. >> reporter: they are still hearing testimony, they are yet to hear fromhe public but they are expected to vote the supervisors are on this station closure plan later on tonight. a short time ago the fire chief talked to supervisors and he told them there are no other options. >> basically coming to a fiscal crisis where our reserve funds have been exhausted. >> reporter: contra costa county fire chief daryl lauder spoke about his plans to shut down four fire stations because of lack of funding. they're now considering whether to allow the fire department to close those stations in walnut creek, clayton, martinez and lafayette. the proposal comes after voters failed to pass proposition q. he believes the station closers are inevitable and firefighters need to prepare for that reality, the fire chief told us. >> we have a lot of job as far as reorganizer the fire district. how we operate, how we respond. we're going to have to get to working on all those things. but until the decisions are made on the station closure, we can't begin those. >> the chief said

. >>> ktvu's alex sadvige has been looking at this with security experts and he tells us what he's learned. >> reporter: this is a day to re-examine your school's plan. in fact, it wasn't long ago when the lock down plan they have here at this district was put to the test. earlier this year there were reports of an armed man here on the campus of east avenue middle school. their job is to keep students safe. and today leaders of the liver mother valley joint school district are taking a hard look at how they would respond to a scenario like the one that took place in connecticut. >> i think we're doing everything we can but everyone everything you can is not enough. after this is done we ask, what could they have done and are we doing those things already. >> reporter: chris van schaack tells me administrators will try to learn from this event. the district already does regular lock down drills to prepare for a shooter on campus and other emergencies. >> we don't take any chances if there's ever a doubt. if we ever think there's someone on campus. announcements are made, kids are locked. >
