alex savidge is live in san francisco to tell us what is behind this new push. alex. >> reporter: supervisor scott weiner here in center lane wants bart and muni to begin running 24 hours a day. he says it's both an economic issue for the city and the region and also a safety issue as well. yesterday supervisor weiner introduced a resolution that would create a working group to focus on late night transportation. he says right now there are simply limited options for people who work off hours in the city and those who visit bars and clubs and leaving late at night and want to get back to the east bay and other parts of the bay area. those who support expanded hours for bart and muni say san francisco east nighttime economy employs about 50,000 people and generates about $50 million in tax revenue. the owner of a san francisco bakery told us the lack of overnight transit options can hurt when it comes to hiring. >> i had one attractive resume after another but all of them lived in the east bay. and none of them could get here by 5:00 a.m.. >> reporter: and that tr

alex savidge is joining us from our newsroom with new information about the victims. alex. >> reporter: over night we did learn a tenth person died in this crash. five were students and five were adults. 30 other people do remain hospitalized. and this was the firey scene near orland yesterday afternoon after a fedex truck crashed head on with that charter bus. they were all headed up to humboldt state for a college tour that was set to happen this weekend. that crash killed again five students, three chaperons, and the driver of both the fedex truck and the charter bus. >> flipped a white car that is further in the ditch up there. sideswiped it. went head on with the charter bus. immediate explosion. >> the head of the l.a. unified school destruct says some student from the school district was on that trip. but right now officials are scrambling to figure out which students were on the bus that scratched. the chp is working to figure out what caused that crash. caused the fedex driver to lose control. all lanes of i-5 do remain closed. we do know the ntsb is sending a

alex savidge is live and joins us live. what's happening right now in the search, alex? >> reporter: well, good afternoon, tori. right now, the coast guard is in the water along with the san francisco fire department. they are scouring a significant area of the ocean right now for that missing boy. even though he's been in the water now for roughly 20 hours, this still is considered a rescue operation. san francisco firefighters used binoculars to scan the waters off ocean beach this morning. while a coast guard hospital through flew along the line searching for any sign of the teen. he was pulled into the water by a strong rip current yesterday afternoon. rescuers are covering the bay bridge to lake merced. >> we're doing a shoreline search just beas that's where our diagrams are showing that person would likely be. >> reporter: he was one of three people swept into the ocean yesterday. the boy's father and young cousin were both rescued by a 17-year-old surfer tony barbero. that's the son of a san francisco firefighter. >> this is another day going out to the beach and

we're live in san leandro, alex savidge, ktvu channel 2 news. >>> 7:07. a well-known bay area golf instructor already in jail on child sex abuse charges is now facing serious new charges that he allegedly plotted to murder the boys who accused him of molesting them. ktvu's tara moriarty is live outside of the alameda county jail in dublin where the golf instructor is being held. how was this alleged plot uncovered? >> reporter: well, authorities won't say who tipped them off, it was a confidential informant at the jail who told a sheriff's deputy about the alleged murder plot. we do know that authorities believe that andrew nisbet wanted to kill the boys and hired a hitman, tried to hire one from his cell. 32-year-old andrew nisbet was arrested in december accused of sexually abusing three boys in his junior golf club. yesterday prosecutors added solicitation for murder charges. that's on top of the 75 counts already facing him seen online in video and photos posing with students. the charges include molestation and lewd acts on three unnamed boys between

alex savidge joins us live from where the collision occurred and explains about today's safety enforcements. good afternoon, alex. >> reporter: well, good afternoon. police this morning were in the middle of a traffic enforcement operation meant to cut down on the number of people being hit by cars in the city. that's when they were called to 20th, because a car crashed into a man crossing in this crosswalk. the collision was at about 7:30 this morning. officers arrived here and found the victim, a in man in his -- a man in his 30s. it was a 0-year-old woman behind the -- 20-year-old bomb woman behind the -- woman behind the wheel of the car that hit him. she was cooperative with police officers. that crash happened right after san francisco police launched a crackdown on dangerous drivers along the van ness corridor. make officers were pulling drivers over -- motorcycle officers were pulling drivers over for speeding, failing to yeed to people in crosswalks. that operation was carried out with help by the chp. so far this year, seven people have been hit and killed by cars crossing streets

coming up in 25 minutes alex savidge is out in walnut creek. >>> time is 4:34. today the family of a menlo park woman missing on mount tam is expected to meet with investigators. she was last seen in surveillance video last sunday paying for parking at a state lot. after a few days, rangers noticed her car had not moved and began searching. they say it is a rental car and the front seat was full of groceries. >> there could be $100 different scenarios that could play out. we don't have that much information to go on. >> yesterday more than 100 search and rescue volunteers combed the mountain. they have about 20,000-acres to search. right now it's not clear what time the search is expected to resume today. park rangers say his family is flying in from maryland and she didn't have many friends in the bay area. >>> a body found is being investigated as a homicide. a person walking near an open space made the discovery friday night. police have not released any details on the killing or the victims identity. but they say there is no apparent threat to the community

ktvu's alex savidge joins us live from san jose with more on how the teen got on the plane and the concerns that are now raised. good afternoon alex. >> reporter: good afternoon. one bay area congressman is calling for a federal review after this security breach. the fbi believes this 16-year- old boy simply hopped a perimeter fence here at the airport and stowed away in the wheel well of that hawaiian airlines airplane. this all happened yesterday, and apparently there is security video that shows the boy sneaking on to the tarmac that has not been released yet. this is a photo of that teenager released by maui news. he was treated by paramedics after being discovered at the airport in hawaii yesterday. incredibly he was not hurt during that five-hour flight across the pacific ocean. while there's a sense of relief this boy managed to survive, many are questioning how he could have made it on to that flight undetected. san jose international airport is surrounded by an 8-foot high fence with barbed wire at the top. they called for a review of perimeter security. >> what concerns me is if s

that's where alex savidge is now to tell us why people who work nearby are frustrated by this fire. eporter: well, good morning. neighbors -- people would work in the surrounding area here say they have complained for a long time about the homeless encampment set up. people say it was unsafe and filled with trash. people inside were using propane tanks to cook. it was being used by a group of 25 to 30 homeless people and in fact firefighters at this point still aren't entirely sure that everyone made it out during yesterday's fire. that's because there is a concern about the building collapsing. as soon as it is safe, rescuers will go inside and begin looking for victims. the fire began about 3:00 in the afternoon yesterday at this building that's at the intersection of park and montgomery. it used to be a television studio for kntv but it had been vacant since 2004. one woman told us people had been living at the building for years and it turned areas of it into their private apartments. a man who works just next door says people from the building had broken into his business on a n

alex savidge is live in san francisco with more on the bug and who is at risk. eporter: good morning. computer experts call this one of the most serious security flaws uncovered in recent years. hackers have found a way to get past security software use by all sorts of websites including popular places that you visit. the issue is with the encryption. you will notice the sites many begin with https. the s stands for secure but it turns out that may not have been the case with the so- called heart bleed bug. it could impact up to two- thirds of all websites. it was discovered by a security firm until finland working with google. they are using a security software known as open ssl. hackers can potentially access things like pass words and credit card numbers without anyone even noticing. and the real troubling part about this is the heart bleed bug has been in existence for the past two years but the problem was just now discovered. and this issue is so serious that the u.s. government is now advising businesses to check for online vulnerabilities. many websites a

ktvu's alex savidge joining us live this morning to tell us who is at risk of what's called the heart bleed bug. good morning, alex. >> reporter: well, dave, good morning to you. a number of websites and businesses are scrambling to fix this security flaw. that includes a lot of popular sites that a lot of visit. places like google, amazon and facebook. the problem centers around encryption. you have probably noticed a lot of the websites begin with htts. the s stands for security. hackers may have found a way to get around that. this bug may be impacting up to two thirds of all websites. it was discovered by a security firm working with google. computer experts call this one of the most serious security flaws because anyone who goes online could be at risk. the websites are using a security software and hackers can potentially access things like passwords and credit card numbers without anyone even noticing. and the real troubling part about all of this, the bug has been in existens for two years -- existence for two years. but it was not uncovered. it's unknown how much damage has b

ktvu's alex savidge is live in santa rosa with what drivers can expect. quite a bit of traffic. od morning, alex. >> reporter: very busy out here. good morning to you, tori. police here in folks are trying to improve safety for those on foot in the city and they launched this crackdown about a half-hour ago. i want to show you, we did see the first ticket that we've seen from our vantage point. you can see that person just up the street here on golden gate near van ness. it's unclear what the violation was. but we did see the motorcycle officer make the traffic stop. this is part of an enforcement operation along van ness between market and geary. officers on the lookout for speeders and red line runners among other things. so far this year, there have been a total of seven people who have been hit and killed trying to cross streets in san francisco. of that total, four victims were struck here along van ness. that's why the focus is here today. officers will be focusing on van ness between market and geary. again, they will be handing out a lot of tickets. they will be giving ou

alex savidge dug a little deeper into this story and found an amazing tale about the hours before therash. good morning, alex. >> reporter: good morning. this high school senior used twitter to document that entire bus trip one that ended with a deadly crash yesterday. it was early yesterday morning when he tweeted out a photo of the bus that he was taking, he and other students, up to humboldt state for a weekend visit. during that 12-hour ride, the teen tweeted out a picture from on board the bus. he chose to sit in the back row, a decision that may have saved his life. suddenly, his bus was hit head on by that big rig. gutierrez says he heard screams, then felt the impact and he tweeted out this photo a short time later after climbing out of a window to escape the burning bus. the post read, can't believe this just happened. i was asleep and next thing you know, i was jumping out for my life. a little while later, gutierrez sent out this selfie from the hospital where he and other suffer vifern -- survivors were taken after the accident. the 17-year-old, doing well. only has a few

alex savidge is live in oakland with these allegations and where that money may have gone. good morning, alex. >> reporter: well, dave, good morning to you. to be clear, the charges in this case are not related to this man's work here at a.c. transit. the chief financial officer here instead is accused of stealing more than $500,000 from allen temple baptist church in oakland where he worships. we'll show you a photo of him. he went before a judge facing these charges. prosecutors say he spent that stolen money on everything from a luxury car to his kids' private school tuition to a golf club membership. clinton served on several boards of the church and prosecutors say those positions were used to steal church funds. he was board president of a church-run corporation that was set up to provide housing to low-income families. now, prosecutors say the embezzlement came to light back in 2012 when a bookkeeper noticed suspicious withdraws from a -- withdrawals from a church account. clinton gets paid more than $200,000 as a.c. transit's cfo and is a trustee of the agency's reti

alex savidge is joining us live now at one of the most dangerous areas in the city. >> reporter: goodng, to you. you can expect to see a lot of san francisco police officers and highway patrol officers along this stretch of vanness later this morning. they will be doing a traffic enforcement operation on the lookout for red light runners and speeders. the idea here is to try to make the street safer for those on thought. it was earlier this month when a man was hit and killed by a car near this intersection where we are. golden gate and vanness. so far this year the total stands at seven people who have been killed trying to cross streets in the city. four of the victims were struck along vanness. officers will be focusing on vanness between market and geary. and they will also be giving out warnings in an effort to correct bad driving behavior. this is part of the city's vision zero plan. people we talked to who live nearby are hoping this operation will make a difference. do you fear for your well being as you cross the street? >> i do sometimes yeah. crazy drivers. they are running
