live in san francisco alex savidge ktvu channel 2 news. >>> 6:04.irefighters in san jose continue to look for answers in an apartment fire that killed a couple and their young granddaughter. janine de la vega is in san jose and tells us the red cross is helping others that were displaced by this fire. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. i'll get to those numbers in a minute. we did get an update. people who lived in this apartment complex are in mourning. the couple who lived here were long-time residents. you can see the apartment is destroyed and completely boarded up because of all the smoke damage. this fire broke out late saturday night in the second story apartment on bridge port court. the latest numbers we got from the red cross is that 73 people were effected by the fire because of the smoke and water damage and electricity is out in the entire building. 56-year-old man and his wife and granddaughter died in the apartment before firefighters could reach them. the red cross is assisting the residents that have been displaced. >> a lot o

ktvu aalex savidge live at the -- ktvu's alex savidge is live at the van ness station. what do you know? >> reporter: well, right here on market street, i did an interview with the mta spokesperson, he came out here and updated the situation. he says computers who use subway systems can expect a smooth right. all of the issues has been resolved. he tells me all of their trains are running on their regular schedules. let me show you the scene inside the van ness station. all of the trains again moving this morning. there was a shutdown, though, last night. it was about 6:00 when the entire subway system stopped because of a blown transformer at the van ness station. crews had to work throughout the night to fix the problem. and then finally at 1:30 this morning, they had everybody up and running again. with all of the subways out of service. you can imagine it was a major hassle for tens of thousands of commuters. many had to take the bus. the mta spokesperson said the hard work helped with service this morning. >> we thought we would have to provide modified office on t

ktvu alex savidge is there. he's outside long fellow middle school so what do you know? >> reporter: just a couple minutes ago they took down the crime scene tape so this investigation has wrapped up here on sacramento street. this man was riding a bike was shot and killed. it happened on the sidewalk. this is as you can see right outside of long fellow middle school here in berkeley. lieutenant here on scene told me it's much too early to say what the motive may have been here. at 3:30 in the morning we watched as a coroner took away a man's body. berkeley police were called out here around 11:30 last night. they got calls of a bicyclist who was down on the sidewalk. officers arrived and the first arriving officers quickly realized this man had severe injuries and he had been shot. eventually he was pronounced dead. homicide investigators at this point are trying to track down witnesses but a lieutenant tells me they don't have a whole lot of clues to go on. >> we received a call of a person being down on a bicycle. the officers arrived to find out the person had been a

ktvu alex savidge is live on walnut street. good morning, alex. >> reporter: good morning. the sergeant here on scene told me in this case a woman was found stabbed to death early this morning. officers are still out here on scene. you can see a couple patrol cars parked out here on this street. the stabbing happened inside this apartment building in a second floor unit. we'll show you video we shot a short time ago. this is all taking place in the 5800 block of walnut. neighbors called 911 just about two hours ago. around 2:30 this morning. when officers aryed here on scene they went inside this unit and found this woman with multiple stab wounds and she died here on scene. a sergeant told me a short time ago police do have a possible suspect. a man in custody at this point. they are not saying much about who this person is. and the motive at least at this point according to the sergeant remains unclear. in addition, oakland police also investigating a second deadly shooting. another crime scene. two people who were found dead shot to death. this all happened early this mo

ktvu alex savidge has been there since 4:30. it's pretty big isn't it? >> reporter: it's a big sink hole. it could take several months to rebuild this roadway that collapsed yesterday. crews will be back here later on to get back to work. they will be using this heavy equipment to excavate the sink hole and try to dig debris out of the hole. it flooded from heavy rain yesterday. in the afternoon the soil just eroded and that is when the pavement out here gave way. utility lines under ground were impacted as well. gas line had to be capped immediately and crews had to create a sewer bypass to keep waste water from run into the creek. there was also a 12-inch water main that came close to rupturing. but it ended up staying intact in the end. now the cause of the collapse the pipe that diverts creek water under the roadway got backed up during the storm. >> number of logs. whole bunch of degree from upstream came down the creek. plugged the culvert. water had nowhere to go but over the top and it created an eddy. >> reporter: so now the city will begin to w
