alex savidge lz is live to explain what the city will be doing with a $2 million grant. >> reporter: brian, good afternoon. the money will go mainly to fund crime prevention programs and efforts to keep young people out of prison. the city qualified for this grant from the state mainly because of the struggle to control violent crime here in this city. the state assemblywoman from the east bay was instrumental in securing the money and this morning she stood side by side with mayor jean quan and assemblyman bonta. part of this money will keep felons from returning to prison. the city will use the grant to fund job placement and re-entry programs for those who have been recently released from prison. >> to identify existing programs with proven track records, that so would can direct this money right away and begin to further the results that oakland has been showing. >> reporter: and in oakland, violent crime numbers are falling. so far this year, with homicides, down 21% compared with this time last year and robberies down 40%. city leaders say one program that is having an impact i
