oliver: alex wayne is with bloomberg in washington.were just reading some headlines about the device associated with this latest batch of e-mails. i guess the fbi wants to look at them. can you give us some insight on where the story is going? >> "the new york times" reported that these new e-mails were discovered during the course of the investigation and to anthony weser's -- weiner's --. an incidentalwas thing. they weren't seeking out new clinton e-mails. earliern't part of the investigation, this is something separate and they stumbled upon it. >> it is so unclear what is going on here. he would be really helpful if maybe the fbi would actually tell us something, explain what the heck they are up to. comey issued this letter according to "newsweek." he testified on this case to congress a couple months ago and under justice department rules, he had two update congress on any developments in the investigation because of that prior testimony. said was,hen he although the fbi cannot get assess whether this material may be significant

joining us from washington is bloomberg news white house reporter alex wayne. fairly high, relative to how high it's been. you seen other presidents get decent approval ratings and still that party loses the white house? >> bill clinton was up to 58% and al gore didn't want to put him on the trail and lost. i approval does not guarantee a win by his favored successor. it hillary clinton is banking on this. she will be deploying obama to a bunch of battleground states including north carolina and ohio. jobless claimsl in the u.s. are at their lowest level in four decades. it is at the highest level in seven years. this theme of the election, everybody is furious and everybody wants radical change. a lot of the data don't really seem to paint a picture of a country that looks like that. is kind of mystifying to the obama administration and the president himself. i believe he wonders to himself why the glowing economic data is not translating to more support for hillary clinton. is that people don't like hillary clinton very much. part of it is that parts of the c

let's go to alex wayne in washington.re you have seen moments ago headlines from donald trump where he says he used the tax code brilliantly and he knows the complex u.s. tax code, trying to spin this in a way that makes him look like a business savvy user of the u.s. tax code. >> i think speaking of bubbles, we might be witnessing the puncturing of the trump bubble now. he defended his use of the tax code, sort of the same thing as debate night when he said he was smart. matt: don't you think the debate was more damaging because it was a lot of people said he clearly lost that debate. he did not seem prepared. he did not take advantage of a lot of things he could have. the tax code, anybody with a $900 million loss is going to file that as long as possible. right? >> sure. this report on his use of the tax code is more significant for the sheer news he posted a $915 billion loss in a year. that was probably accumulated over several years, but it undermines his argument he is a successful businessman. scarlet: donald trum
