we turn to alexandra steele from the weather center. >> now to the real alexandra please stand up or stand outside or stand in here. hi, martin. hi, everyone. the storm is over. afait accompli. it made its move and snow in boston but for the most part it did as expected forecastwise. we saw what we expected to see. dot, dot, dot, it is not over yet. it is for that storm. we've got a new clipper coming off the lakes and between now and tuesday, the lee side of lake ontario used to that 2 to 4 on the lee side of lake erie, even here in the big cities we could see a few more inches, hartford, new york, potentially 1 to 2, maybe 5 inches but here's a look at what the last storm did. on to new york, western new york, 12, north haven, connecticut, the bull's-eye for a lot of the storm, 7.2, boston, 6, even in new york city and central park, 5. as expected so the snow that fell will not go anywhere because look at these temperatures. staying well below average in boston, new york and washington, so what fell will stay. refreeze potentially overnight and then a few more inches coming in betw

meteorologist alexandra steele joins us and alexandra, what can we expect? are we expecting more snow? >> more snow and continued cold temperature, rosa. so the storm that moved through is done. you can see way up here in halifax, washington, new york, boston, the snow is over. the temperatures are cold, though. so whatever has fallen will certainly stay, and as alexandra field in the field said, there's another clipper coming through. this is what we expect through tuesday. syracuse, buffalo, so the lee side of buffalo and lake onta o ontario, snow, of course. and boston and new york, a couple more inches for them. and north haven, seven inches. boston had six. chicago had four. new york had five. really, just on par with the forecast. we saw that develop. again, the temperatures remain cold. look at new york. well below average. up and down the eastern seaboard. conversely, though, rosa in the south east, temperatures warmer than average. look at memphis. 60s. new orleans, 60s. atlanta warming up as well. so things warming up in the southeast, but the uppe

alexandra field jioins us live now. sal alexandra, you've been out there all day long.re gathering facts. what's the latest? >> reporter: this will be a lengthy process, rosa. people all day have been asking how could this happen. how could seven rail cars end up derailed on this trip. federal investigators arrived and they are working into the night to begin to answer the questions. they have assembled teams that will look into different factors that could have been factors in the crash. they will look at rails, signals, human performance. teams will work out to compile their evidence. data recorders have been collected and that data will be analyzed. while this train is still derailed on the track, we are obviously looking at rerouting other trains an plans for passengers. amtrak restored its service between new york city and albany but the commute will be a problem in the morn willing. 16 million people ride this metro line north along the hudson every year. if you ride on this line, you need to make a plan for tomorrow morning. met met. >> thank you so much. >>> the

alexandra, how are conditions for you? >> well, jennifer, it may be letting up where you are, but it is picking up where we are. we're taking a trip right now from new york city to boston, and we're just approaching the connecticut border at 84, and this is where we're seeing the snow really start to pick up. if you take a look out of our rear window, you are looking southeast there. new york city is behind us. we left manhattan at about 1:30 this afternoon. the snow was coming down all morning, and definitely starting to stick. they're expecting three to five inches there. we know we're headed -- we're heading for a lot more snow now. we'll give you another look at our wind chill. you'll take a look in the northeast direction here. we're headed for boston. they're expecting eight to ten inches between providence and boston, and then west of boston they're expecting about ten to 15 inches of snow. massachusetts emergency management agency is preparing for a big storm. the first big storm of the season. we're told that they

cnn meteorologist alexandra steele has the forecast. >> hi, fred.the cold air moving from the midwest to the east and the rain train coming up and down the eastern seaboard. so, here's a look. these are high temperatures today. in minneapolis, 38 degrees, chicago 41. up and down the eastern seaboard, 40s and 50s, so the rain moving in certainly won't be snow. but then look what happens on sunday. the cold air drops. minneapolis dropping 26 degrees for a high of 4 degrees below 0. chicago drops as well. east coast stays in the 30s, but then by the time we get to monday, those temperatures continue to drop as do these right along the eastern seaboard, so, out of the 40s. so, that's why with this big moisture system moving in this weekend, tomorrow morning it's here in washington and baltimore, just a rain-maker, though, certainly too warm for snow. then by sunday night it moves into the northeast. the only place we'll see snow, fred, here in northern new england, they'll pick up a few inches, and western new york. >> all right. thanks so much, alexand

alexandctio alexandra steele is in the weather center.r temperatures to swing back and for the that dramatically? >> it happens. when you get cold air that's record breaking in the northern plains and upper midwest, it is incredibly cold and ice advisories and wind chill advisories. so certainly it is quite cold. that arctic air is in place, all the moisture coming from the south. here's tomorrow at 11:00 a.m., still right just getting toward washington d.c., snow will start around 11:00 or so. then watch the ice. the ice will be the biggest play maker with this, potentially a quarter of an inch or so. then we'll watch it more north or northeast. this is different. washington d.c., winter storm watch, the only big city with a winter storm watch. the snow starts in the morning with the sleep, then maybe an inch or two of snow, potentially a quarter inch of ice. biggest ice will be west of washington, the suburbs, philadelphia the snow starts in the afternoon, potentially an inch of snow and sleet and then moving to new york city. but it wi

alexandra field is on the story northwest of philadelphia. what are you learning? >>. >> reporter: deb, elytte barbour are telling police he and his new wife wanted to kill, they had made attempts and then they met troy laferrara, a 42-year-old man who they met after posting an ad on craigslist. the married couple are behind bars and both are charged with criminal homicide. he was found in the backyard of a home and had been left there with 20 stab wounds. a resident looked outside her window and saw the body. >> i walked up and i saw -- because -- a little bit of skin was showing. i saw blood all over his arms were just -- everything was just covered in blood. >> reporter: police say that miranda barbour has admitted to stabbing laferrara repeatly after he got in her car. investigators say elytte barbour was hiding in the backseat of that car and he put a rope around laferrara's neck while miranda barbour stabbed him. >> one of the most frightening things about all of this is that this is a man who answered an ad on craigslist. do you know what that ad said? how d

cnn's alexandra field has the latest from new jersey. alexandra? >> reporter: rosa, police say the suspects were after an expensive car when a new jersey attorney was gunned down and killed outside an upscale new jersey shopping mall. less than a week later, prosecutors have announced four men are charged with his death. it was this silver range rover investigators say that turned dustin freeland into a target and ultimately cost him his life. less than a week after the deadly attack at a mall in short hills, new jersey, a major break in the case overnight. four men are charged with carjacking and the murder of the 30-year-old attorney from hoboken, new jersey. authorities picked up 29-year-old thompson, 31-year-old kareef ford and 31-year-old kevin roberts in new jersey and 32-year-old basim henry was arrested in pennsylvania. >> citizens in the city where we stand today know most viscerally what a crime like this does to individuals and families and what it does to communities. >> reporter: on wednesday, freeland's family said their final good-by

cnn's alexandra field joins us live from new york. >> reporter: good morning, deb. target is saying this was a bigger breach than initially reported, along with the card numbers and names stolen, they are now saying p.i.n. numbers were stolen. the retailer is saying that information remains safe and secure. they're saying the p.i.n. numbers are encrypted in checkout, changed in the system, and protected when the shopper leaves. they say there are still reasons for shoppers to be concerned. >> the encryption itself is actually an industry-grade standard, data encryption standard, and use triple des, which allows it to be protected. the problem with p.i.n. numbers is they are only four characters, so there are only 10,000 combinations. it won't hold up, because hacker disbrute for -- hackers can brute force it. >> the advice for all of the people right now is to replace their bank cards and credit cards and to get some new p.i.n. numbers. also, security experts are telling people they need to be looking at their banking and credit card statements carefully, watching f

alexandra steele is in the cnn weather center with the where and the when. what can we expect >> hi, good evening to you. this ice show, it's tomorrow, but it's a little bit different than what we saw yesterday. it is farther east and on the upside, temperatures will be a lot warmer the next day, the day after our ice storm, which is monday, they'll be in the 40s, so we're not going to see that ice sit. we are going to see it melt. here's the timeline. tomorrow by 11:00 you can see beginning to make its way toward the mid-atlantic, in washington. snow gets there by noon, and then it moves farther north in toward new york and certainly long island by sunday night and by monday it all moves toward new england. but the balance of the east gets into the 40s, so that certainly is better news in terms of how much ice and how long that ice lasts. so, here's the timeline for places like washington, they do have a winter storm watch posted for tomorrow. in the morning by 11:00 or 12:00, it will start as snow and sleet and then in the afternoon like we're going to see

tell us, alexandra, how bad is it? >> reporter: pamela, it's going from scenic to sloppy pretty quickly. take a look at what we're seeing here in wu bern. this is about ten miles outside of boston. but it's quickly turning to slush. this is the same mess we're seeing all over the northeast this morning. the sights and sounds of a fierce winter storm. overnight, the large swath of snow and ice moved into the northeast, packing a punch that has many in the region digging in for a long winter. >> got plenty of salt, the back roads are starting to stick a little bit. it looks like it's coming down pretty good now, though. they might get a little worse, especially the back roads. >> i'm going to stay in for this and get out of the way. >> boston's mayor tom menino cautioning everybody before the worst hits his city. >> be very careful as you come back from those parties this evening. the roadways will be snow on them and just ask you just when you celebrate and celebrate responsibly. this is a snowstorm that is not of major

alexandra steel is in the we is ve severe weather center. fall has quite a bite in the air. >> thanks, fred. want to talk about what we were saying about that ice. now, this ice storm we're going to see develop. tomorrow, it's a sunday affair. will be farther east. kentucky will get into it a little bit as will tennessee. want to time it out and show you who will see what and when. this is tomorrow morning. here's the mid atlantic in washington. bulk of the action south and west. notice where the pink is. roanoke to richmond. that will be the biggest ice headache on the i-81. by tomorrow afternoon, d.c. gets into it. and then it moves towards the northeast and toward new york and boston. monday morning and then it all pushes out but the good news with this storm unlike yesterday's, temperatures on monday across the board here on the eastern seaboard will be in the 40s. so whatever ice we see will be over by monday. so here's the timeline for washington. they are the only big city that does have a winter storm watch. tomorrow morning it will

live now near hartford, connecticut, and alexandra, how is it looking?s worse a you go farther north. i know that we left new york city around 1:30 and you certainly have some snow there. they're expecting 3 to 5 inches, but we're heading for boston where the forecast calls for 8 to 14 inches of snow, so this is a slow-going trip up interstate 84. a lot of the cars have been slowing down periodically as we get through patches of road where the snow has begun to stick. we're also seeing some highway signs that advise people, you know, to take caution, that the roads are slippery, again, this is the first time that a lot of people are driving through the snow in the northeast here after, you know, the summer and the spring. we haven't seen this here yet this fall. so winter is coming early, a full week early here. and you can see right in front of me through the windshield camera that cars are slowing down as we approach hartford, people are trying to take their time and navigate the roads. we've seen plows out. there are salt and sand trucks that are out

there was the rubble from under the tracks like flyinging >> cnn's alexandra field joining us from the bronx. you're getting new information from rail officials? >> right, fredricka. everyone wants to know what caused this crash. metro north is saying they inspect their tracks twice a week. when this track was last inspected, it was demand okay for normal use. they're telling us the the crew on board the train has been drug and alcohol tested. that's routine taken procedure in a case like this. those results are not routinely released. a spokesman wasn't able to tell us if a camera would have been trained on the train's operator. that's something investigators want to find out. they're looking for nel video or still images that could have been recorded before, after or around the time of the crash. these are things that could give insight into what caused the deadly accident. >> alexandra -- what about the train operator? is he in any condition to give a statement yet? >> so initially, the train operator told law enforcement officials he applied pressure to the brake but the train did

alexandra field joining us from sunbury, pennsylvania. tell us more about this motive and the reason why they did this allegedly? >> reporter: fred, a really bizarre case anda after a few weeks police believe they put it together. they tell us a young newlywed couple, they're talking about irin anda barbour and her husband elytte barbour. they met a man there after they advertised paid companionship services. troy laferrara, 24-year-old married man, had been found and stabbed to death 20 times. she confessed to stabbing laferrara repeatedly in her car after they had arranged to meet at a mall. they went for a drive and he started to touch her and then she stabbed him. at the time her newlywed husband and her husband of just three weeks elytte barbour came out and spoke in an interview in he defense. here's what he said. >> that was malicious whatsoever. i believe that she was attacked and that under those circumstances she took the necessary measures to defend herself. >> reporter: miranda barbour was arrested first and charged with crimi
