alexandra, what does it look like? >> yeah, this typhoon is the third super typhoon of this year along in the western pacific. so they've seen an awful lot. it's no longer a super typhoon. it's now a tie fan, but it is restrengthening again. can you see it here quite clearly. maximum sustained winds at 165. gusts to 205. but the problem with this is not only what this will do but what the history has done. here's the history of halong. it moved west and now north really with a beeline towards southern japan. but before this typhoon gets there, we had a tropical storm that brought an awful lot of rain. so here's the landfall. the landfall with this one is saturday. the winds will be about 120 to 150. but the biggest problem with this is the extreme flooding. the intensity of a hurricane or a typhoon doesn't lead to flooding. it's the forward speed, the slower it goes, the more we'll see. so here's a look at the time line. we can see it make its way for the weekend, of course. but it was the tropical storm nakri that cam

joining me now on the phone is documentary filmmaker alexandra pelosi. she felt the earthquake. where were you? >> napa california. i was at home and felt as though someone picked up the house and started shaking it and just dumped it. >> how long have you lived in california? >> yeah, and i was in the 1989 earthquake. and i have to say this felt violent. it's remarkable the amount of damage that we are not seeing. i mean, compared to 1989. i'm in napa. i'm standing in front of an olive oil company where you can see all of the bottles on the floor. to think that's the worst case scenario, buildings being destroyed. there are some bad buildings destroyed but i was sure that there was going to be so much more damage because it was so violent and it was so -- it was a very strong earthquake and it's really something that we've never felt before. >> you have been out and about. have you been talking to other people and talking to them about their experiences? >> i have. and i just bumped into congressman mike thompson on the street who is saying the same thing. it's just remarkable

. >>> but first, cnn's alexandra field live outside mount sinai hospital where we have just received word on joan rivers' condition. the 81-year-old icon was rushed to the hospital earlier after she stopped breathing during a throat surgery at a clinic. what can you tell us? >> reporter: well, john, we know that her daughter melissa rivers has flown in from los angeles to be at her mother's side in mount sinai. her daughter has just put out a statement, thanking people for their love and support, saying her mother is now resting comfortably with her family around here. but they're asking people to continue to keep joan in their thoughts and in their prayers. a very trying day for the rivers family. it started very early this morning. joan rivers was going through an outpatient surgery, being performed on their throat. that's when she stopped breathing. the fire department says their responders responded to a patient who had gone into cardiac and respiratory arrest. we know that joan rivers was brought here to mount sinai in critical condition. the ephedcomedian most recentlyn for her

alexandra field has more. >> reporter: another day begins without drinking water in toledo, ohio. >>tatus quo. the do not consume is still in place. >> reporter: the national guard delivering water by the truck load. the red cross. store shelves are empty and people are clamoring. >> if i don't have water my baby doesn't eat. so that's going to be an issue. >> can't wash up, can't cook. it's hell. >> reporter: 400,000 people in the toledo area can't drink tap water. boiling it only makes the problems worse. the warnings first issued on saturday. >> everybody stay cool, stay calm and we'll get through this. wheel learn from this and we'll bring improvements. >> reporter: tissue appears to stem from algae blooms growing in lake erie. this shows a previous bloom so big you can see it from space. routine testing of the water supply uncovered the problem, turning up two water samples with dangerous levels of micro sis tin, a toxin sometimes released by algae blooms. more testing is under way, additional results are needed before the ban can be lifted. >> i am not going to take any chances
