reporter: on one of the holiest days of the year, this massive blast killing at least 17 at one of alexandria's most famous cathedrals. security cameras capturing this man, a suicide bomber, approaching the coptic church. told to go to through a metal detector, he pauses next to two police officers and detonates his explosives. the coptic pope, the head of the church, had been inside, but escaped unharmed. that followed another suicide blast just hours earlier in the middle of palm sunday mass in the city of tanta. the video feed cutting out as chaos erupts. churchgoers frantically searching for survivors. "i got up, and saw bodies all around me," this man said. yeah, so very quiet residential neighborhood south of old town alexandria near mount vernon.s is the fort hunt area fairfax county and we can tell that you there's a fairfax county command center on the scene here. we've seen a number of police vehicles on the other side of the barricade as well. it started about 8:00 p.m. last night. apparently a homeowner was on the phone with somebody that he knew and that person on the other end of the phone felt that this homeowner was experiencing some kind of a mental health crisis and called fairfax county police who wanted to come and try and serve an emergency mental health order to bring that person in safely for mental health evaluation and when they came to serve the order the homeowner refused to come out and so that is what began the barricade situation. we do not know if there's any sort of weapons involved here at this point. there's no indication of that from what we understand. but again, it's one of those tense situations where you just really don't know how it there may be family members inside the house with this homeown

let's go to "eyewitness news" reporter alexandria hoff.he's outside temple university hospital with the story. alex? >> reporter: we are told this woman appeared to be in her 30's and once again she was rushed here to temple university hospital in the back of a police cruiser immediately after she was backed over by one. on a paved walking trail on the 3,000 block of f street, police say that a police cruiser was parked while officers conducted an investigation. that investigation became secondary around 4:30 p.m. when a department spokesperson said an officer attempted to move that vehicle. >> they went ahead when they doesn't matter. ran over her. >> reporter: unknown to that philadelphia police officer >> female was behind the vehicle and the police vehicle struck the female. >> reporter: an eyewitness caught what happened. two officers jump into action, moving the seemingly unconscious woman to the back of their cruiser in order to get her quick medical attention. >> the officers did immediately transport the female victim to the hospi
