aly: good morning. clear roads right now, especially around here, but you can see just how cold it is. dozens of icicles hanging off the fountain. when the water's freezing outside, it means it is possible to freeze inside your home. according to the insurance institute for home safety, we're just a couple of degeges from the temperature alert threshold. they say at 20 degrees or below, pipes are vulnerable to freeze but it can still happen at these temperatures. the best way to tell if you have a frozen pipe is if you turn on a faucet, and only a trickle comes out. pipes running against exterior walls or where your water enters the home through the foundation are most likely to freeze. keeping your faucet open, applying a heated pad or hair dryer to a frozen pipe and applying heat until full water pressure is restored can help. that is the best way to avoid an expensive and messy cleanup. and if you can not thaw the pipe, call a plumber. aly myles live in greenville. geoff: thank you. today, vice presi

aly: good morning. we are live in asheville at the corner of montford and chestnut street and there is still a lot of snow. a lot is at my feet on thesideline. the problem is if someone files , a complaint about this type of thing to the city, the property owners could face some fines. the city ordinance requires property owners to shovel the snow on the public sidewalks that run in front of their homes. public works officials say owners have until 48-hours after the end of a storm to get the job done. if not, they could face fines of up to $100 a day. >> i know before the stormwe pushed some things out on social media about that, but everyone doesn't follow there could be some property owners that just don't know. aly: compliance officers generally respond to violations 10 days to comply. the city says it tried to warn people through social media about the requirement but says not everyone follows their accounts, so some property owners just might not know. aly myles wyff news 4 live in asheville. geof

geoff: aly: miles joining us live. aly: good morning. we are at maggie valley. take a look behind me. i did not know if you can hear those e me up with those of the snow machines making plenty of snow right now. what they were saying just a few days ago. we are seeing way, way colder temperatures than last week. right now, our car thermometer is reading about 16 degrees. on friday, the ski area and maggie valley was not the progress and the chill came and started making snow. >> the snowfall from the sky makes everything look pretty, lets you think it is winter, but we have already skied 32 days this year and we would have had our stuff on the ground no matter what. aly: the cold is expected to stick around for a while. i'm sure dale has been telling you, but his forecast calls for temperatures in the lower 20's later tonight. hopefully, we will be able to have fun with that in a little while. aly myles wyff news 4 live in maggie valley. remember, when the snow hits, we have the latest updates. the app is free to download and available in apple and android app s

allyson: wyff news 4's aly myles joins us live from greenwood county, one of the hardest hit aly: myra: we are near wilson creek off of highway 702. as you said, it was one of the hardest hit areas here in the upstate. you can see that with a road closed to behind me. a bridge close to sign half a mile from here you. you can see trees submerged as water rise to buy in this video from the october flooding. the surrounding area flooded. we also have video from the chinquapin subdivision. pond's emergency spillway. this is one of many areas that to take action. fema aid is available in 24 including greenville, spartanburg, and greenwood counties. again, this deadline is only for damage from october's record flooding. you will need to get that in today to qualify. aly myles, wyff 4, live in greenwood county. geoff: thank you. historic flooding hit the carolinas three months ago on 19 people died in south carolina. two died in north carolina. all of the debts happened in or near vehicles and were caused by the weather. investigators are trying to figure out the cause of a deadly house fire

myra: aly myles is standing by aly: completely clear roads from greenville to asheville only did the drorni dot is ready for what may happen in the next coming days. behind me, there are two different solutions. one is the salt brine to the side and another appears to be a dirt material. you can see how had that goes, probably between 30 feet and 40 feet high. scdot has already applied 150,000 gallons of salt brine to major interstates and primary routes yesterday. officials say crews may reapply salt brine today if conditions allow. they say crews will go into active salting once snow comes. now, to give you a taste of what is expected to come here's , video from snow yesterday in asheville. it was enough to stick to the ground in some areas of buncombe county, and some students were let out of school early. in the higher elevations, snow is called for ski resorts like plenty of them taking advantage in this video from yesterday. it may be a little warmer than the last couple of days, but still very cold and there are wet spots on the road because of melted snow. take it easy and wa
