al jazeera's ali velshi is in detroit where ford is a big attraction. he spoke to ford's ceo alan malawi about the show, the future and concerns. >> we announced the f150 and all the developments. it is lightweight material, turbo charging and all the improvements that we are making in fuel mileage. hauling capability and cargo capability, and the features. it's a great day for ford. >> outside of ford 2013 was a banner year for the u.s. auto industry. there were a lot of people that thought we wouldn't get to those numbers. was that better. obviously you had forecast so long. what does it say about our economy? >> it's saying a lot of positive things. it's where we say it would be. we also thing that based on the economic recovery, we'll see an economic expansion of gdp of 2.5% for the next year, and an industry between 16 and 17 million units in the united states. >> what did you do last week in ces when one of the guys collected information on drivers. cars have the black boxes, like aeroplanes. this is a business you know about. . >> right. >> it ma

. >> ali velshi is live right now in switzerland meeting with oil companies and leaders, and ali he's taking advantage. >> i haven't seen this kind of push from a country for long time. netanyahu from israel is here, and he's meeting with everyone who will meet with him. i spoke to carlos goen, he's the ceo of nissan and renault. and iran was the 10th biggest automobile market in the world. it was a very prosperous country. and these sanctions have really hurt. i spoke to carlos goen, and asked about these sanctions and here's what he told me. >> even with the sanctions, the local government defectors figured out how to produce and sell 600,000 cars a year. we still make it the largest market. i think with the sanctions, i'm expecting this to double. that this market will go to 1 ha1.5 million cars a year for my years to come. >> 1.5 million cars a year. and to give you perspective on that, last year in the united states, 15 million cars sold. so this could make up 1/10 of the cars that we sell in the united states. that's one example. and there are many like that with ceos very excit

david shuster is filling in for ali velshi. ali is in switzerland, david. good to talk to you.hat kind of toll is this storm going to take? >> reporter: the big thick flakes that you and john terrett were talking about, they cause more than travel problems but they're causing something of an energy emergency in ohio and 17 states. states where supplies of propane gas was already tight. and 6% of the people use propane in the market, and it's tight to begin with. there is an effort to make it easier for propane tanks to get to people who need them during the storm. >> dravid, how much might this cost companies? >> well, as far as the airline industry, which is a lot of people like to talk b the estimate, for example, in the last storm earlier this month, the polar vortex, the expectation is that it could create a storm that is the same. and more airports are involved today than were involved last month. the good news with the airline industries, they have insurance that protects them up to $1 billion of catastrophic damage, but it's not good for the industry, and it's not good f
