i'm ali velshi, this is "real money". >>> this is "real money", you are the most important part of the show. tweet me or hit me up at facebook. next time you pass your local court house look closely. see a for sale sign. it should come as no surprise that $1.2 billion to date has been raised with the intention of influencing the midterm elections. did you know the big money is spreading to elections that reach beyond this election of your congressman, and instead focus on who is in charge of your courtrooms? outside groups dramatically increased spending to influence which judges sit on the bench at the highest levels in each state. here is a look at justice for sale. it was an emfating ruling reverberating outside the heart land. iowa supreme court voted unanimously in 2009 to allow same sex couples to marry. a year later, when three of the supreme court justices came up for a standard retention election, that's a yes, no vote to keep a judge seated on the court, socially conservative groups like the national organization for marriage made the dissatisfaction with the decision known.

in the meantime joining us is al jazerra's ali velshi, the host of "real money." as we all wait for this press conference. if you were there what would you be looking for in terms of information that we though clarify. what information will you be looking for in terms of coming from the royal canadian mounted police. >> three things first of all, is the situation contained, anymore gunfire do they believe there are anymore active shooters out there. as you know, we have had all sorts of reports. we have had reports of several shoot and goes what a lot of the media are reporting as three shooting locations we know that the center block of parliament was one shooting location, we have word that the gunman there was killed by the sergeant of arms. we know that i soldier has died, he was shot by the gunman at the war memorial. so we have two shooting locations there. and we have report about the famous hotel next to parliament where i stayed 10 days ago and the shopping center across the report and in between the hotel and the mall is the u.s. embassy also on lock dow

tell us what is on your mind by tweeting us at ali velshi. thomas duncan, the first patient diagnosed with the ebola virus in united states decide this morning in the dallas hospital. he had been receiving treatment for days. duncan flew into dallas september 20th from his native liberia, one of three african countries suffering from the ebola outbreaks, and he checked in to the texas presbyterian hospital days later. the same hospital that admitted a patient exhibiting ebola-type symptoms. one that had contact with duncan's family. still they are confident they have limited the spread of the disease, and no one has shown symptoms of ebola infection. the story is different for three countries in africa. the cost of the ebola epidemic could reach $32.6 billion and lost economic output by 2018. that's the report put out by the world bank in washington, and assuming that the epidemic spreads. but nigeria and senegal have successfully contained ebola outbreaks within their borders. those countries is evidence that adequate healthcare and strong p

i'm ali velshi. this is "real money." ♪ >>> america's fears about ebola are spreading. public officials are scrambling to contain both the disease and the anger about the poor response of health officials to it. we're going to cover this story from multiple angles, including how congress hammered the heads of the cdc today. but we start with fear. the reason why some classes were canceled in texas today. the fear centered on people who had been on a flight with a dallas nurse who contracted ebola, and fears that a yale graduate student might have the disease are unfounded. the student had been tested negative for ebola, after being admitted to the hospital with ebola-like symptoms and fever. they are waiting for centers for disease control, confirmation of the negative test result before completely ruling out ebola. meanwhile the governor in illinois is ordering hospital to tests next week. in washington tonight, president obama authorized the pentagon to call up reserve and national guard troops if they are needed to help respond to the ebola outbreak in west africa. t

"real money's" ali velshi goins us. let's begin with the housing market. where do we stand? >> so the rate of increase in home prices is continuing to slow down. prices are still going up, but they're going up a little more slowly. we have the s&p index out. it's a lower increase than we saw a month earlier. all major california cities were weaker than they've been: san francisco dropped to annal you'll growth level in housing prices of 9%. las vegas continued to see a sharp deceleration. not a drop just a slower rate of growth, but it was still 10.1%. miami was 10.5%. in fact, all cities except cleveland saw a slow down, cleveland was up a little bit. interest rates have ticked lower in the last month, but most of the activity we've seen has been in the mortgage refinancing market. we're still not seeing buyers in here. that's what we're wondering. are these lower prices enough to get people into houses or are we actually seeing this overall slow down. we're not seeing slow downs across the board. we saw strong housing starts, groundbreaking on new homes. permits for new ho
