[applause] i want to thank all of you for coming. the mayor has given all the specific banks, and i, of course, want to add my words. we are here to celebrate, to appreciate, and to anticipate. we are celebrating the successes and, of course, hud, thank you for your generosity. we are here to appreciate the thousands of folks that came together to rebuild our village. we represent san francisco. we are white. we are black. we are browned. we are yellow. we are pink. we are green. we're coming together to make sure that the future of san francisco here in the southeast neighborhoods is taken care of. we are also here to anticipate where we are going. i wanted to come down this morning because i was thinking about that tough vote from a year ago, and i want to thank sophy maxwell for helping convince me to cast that vote. thank you. announced significant in reflection of the way we have done this project, the $30.5 million grant to alice griffith. that was a wonderful shot in the arm and confirms again the vision that gavin newsom started and i get to help make sure gets done, every mayor since that time has made that commitment. we get to see it for like being carried out with the residents living on that site and working to transform their lives in a positive way, and of course, parker said. i think the first and we created increase density on the city. guess what -- over 55 new homes, 300,000 square feet of commercial space will be added, completely through private investment, and reflective of the faith we have in the 1500 rent-controlled apartments will be rebuilt with an unprecedented level of protection to ensure the rights of existing tenants. that project will prove to be a great project for our city, and at the end of the planning process, the western neighborhoods could see a significant capital transportation investment, including separating the air motion view from the 19th avenue and extending muni metro to daly

we are recipients of a hud grant, community choice program ground to rebuild our alice griffith one of the hardest areas of our city and toughest of our public housing developments. if you look at years ago, it was -- it was very high in the statistics in twain -- 2009 of all the shootings and gang recruitment. we are going to rebuild that housing with those neighbors on site and residents of alice griffin participating in the building of their housing. that is how you get strong communities. that is how even our chief says the other programs aren't worki working, your job will be 10 times harder. so building strong communities in my opinion will contribute a long way to prevention and we are fortune with leader pelosi and feinstein to get that grant in the right way. one reason they chose us is because of the integration we have working directly with the residents who have been victimized many years. they get to build their housing with us as a partnership. >> just one final comment. the a.g. is on her way up. one thing we're trying to do on the federal level is to have the various fe

will include 10,500 homes. 1/3 of the house and will be below market rate, including the rebuild alice griffith public housing development. new companies that are coming into the hunters point and bayview area -- as you know, we opened fresh and easy just last month on august 24. i opened that stored to the light of so many residents to see their first full grocery store service. this is their second store in san francisco. the first one opened up on june 20. in addition to fresh and easy, san francisco's wholesale market produce is located in the bayview, and that produce market currently houses 30 companies in the 300,000 square foot wholesale market place. a produce market is a source of good jobs that pay well, and they do not require four-year degrees. the market's 200,000 square feet expansion will generate an additional 350 permanent jobs and $500 million in economic impact, keeping and creating good jobs in san francisco. another economic anchor for the community will be a 3 million square foot innovation district of green office space, clean technology, research and development uses. t
