number one, i had a conversation with alice stewart. she is michele bachmann's campaign spokeswoman. earlier i reported she told me herman cain and michele bachmann spoke on the phone. they did not themselves speak. alice stewart clarified the campaign spoke. no less significant those campaigns are speaking. alice stewart also explained to me a lot of herman cain's supporters have now reached out to the bachmann campaign and said they are now throwing their support behind her. now, again, we don't have any confirmation of whether or not herman cain will drop out of this race, but that's a significant development, as you know, candy, because both of them share a large base among tea parties and christian and evangelical supporters. one other thing, candy, we're expecting herman cain to take the stage at any moment. >> one of the thing, joe johns with me, we hear all this celebratory music. it was supposed to be opening of campaign headquarters. in case anyone assumes these people know anything, i've heard lots of celebratory music before

number one i just got off the phone with alice stewart.he's the campaign spokesman for michele bachmann. she tells me two things. michele bachmann and herman cain spoke on the phone. she didn't say exactly when this occurred but it was definitely clear this was recent. number two, she tells me a number of herman cain supporters have reached out to bachmann's campaign to say that they would be willing to support her. now, obviously we don't want to read too much into this. we do not know exactly what the decision will be that herman cain will announce when he comes out, whether he'll stay in the race, whether he'll get out of the race. if we're reading the tea leaves as we have been doing all day about where he might go with this, this is certainly a significant development in that they share a lot of the same supporters, tea party supporters, social conservatives. so it's curious that a number of his supporters, excuse me, would reach out to the bachmann campaign according to alice stewart. so if we're reading the tea leaves as we have bee

host: alice stewart. guest: i could not agree with you more. michelle has picked up quite a bit of herman cain's support here in iowa and south carolina and across the country. a lot of that is the fact that michelle is a strong leader in the tea party movement. she is the leader of the house tea party caucus, and tea party members are allowed and proud. that is a great support that she has. we have had several key party organizations that have come out and endorsed her. we are encouraged by that. we welcome the endorsement and support from people across the country. the tea party is a group that michelle has involved with from the very beginning, and she is proud of what she has done to help that organization grow. we are thrilled to have an endorsement from any tea party members. to your point on the american military, she has been very clear that she supports our military. she wants us to remain a strong country, and she believes that american exceptionalism is something she is going to fight tooth and nail for in congress. she knows, as ron
