but for now from me, alicia mccarthy, goodbye. hello there. the second half of the weekend promises to be a lot less turbulent than the first half was, because, we're saying farewell to storm hannah which brought a gust of wind of more than 80mph in north—west wales. significant rainfall as well. you can see the swirl of cloud on the satellite picture. a deep area of low pressure which is now very quickly becoming less deep and less threatening as it slides out into the north sea. high—pressure building in from the south—west. this means a much more settled day on sunday. not completely dry, some showers around. some sunny spells though and crucially, less windy. so a much quieter start to the day. one or two showers, as you can see, including close to the london area, and it is a big day in london because the marathon is taking place. there is likely to be a lot of cloud

but for now from me, alicia mccarthy, goodbye. hello there. a weekend that began with wind and rain ended on a relatively quiet note across most parts of the uk. that is how we start the new working week, with some dry weather for most of us. western areas will see some rain, and that will slowly spread eastwards over the next few days. could be some fog patches to contend with, and for a time, butjust for a time, it will turn a little bit warmer. this is what's going on — the view from space, the satellite picture from a little earlier on. you can see a few stripes of cloud pushing in from the west, but all these frontal systems making very, very slow progress, so this monday morning really only dragged across the far west of the uk. elsewhere, high pressure in charge, very light winds, hence we have some mist and fog patches around. they should tend to clear through the morning, and in most places monday will bring some spells of sunshine. best of the sunshine likely to be found across scotland.

but for now from me, alicia mccarthy, goodbye. hello again.off to mozambique where it looks like we've got another weather—related disaster on the way. another cyclone, this is cyclone kenneth, picking up strength and it's going to make landfall thursday afternoon in northern mozambique and bringing you through five days of forecast here, you can see the problem. once the storm has made landfall, it stops moving and we will see torrential falls of rain in the same area day after day. we could be seeing, getting on for a metre of rain over coming days combined with a storm surge 2—4 metres high which could bring coastal inundation and looks like we will see another round of devastating flooding across mozambique, particularly in the north of the country. here in the uk, our weather has changed. it's turned a bit cooler, we've got unsettle weather over the next few days with rain or showers but also temperatures have eased over recent days. it will feel cooler as we head into this weekend combined with strengthening winds as well. now, today we'

you are watching thursday in parliament with me, alicia mccarthy. the programmes on the go, you can find us on the bbc iplayer. just search for parliament. now elections to the european parliament take place next month, which means that as well as british citizens being able to take part, eu citizens in the uk have the right to vote as well. the poll will go ahead on the 23rd of may unless the comments agrees to a exit withdrawal deal before then. the cabinet office minister was brought to the chamber to explain what eu citizens living in the uk needed to do. to vote in the uk, citizens of eu member states need to be registered to vote and to complete the declaration form stating their wish to vote and the uk by tuesday the 7th of may 2019. it's accessible on the local commissions and authority websites. and it is to ensure that eu citizens do not vote twice, here and in the member state of origin. as always it is illegal to vote twice in the same election. he said that before brexit had been differed from the original date of the 29th of march. we

you're watching tuesday in parliament with me, alicia mccarthy, as mps return from their easter breake commons following the death of northern ireland journalist lyra mckee. the 29—year—old was shot in the head on thursday night while observing rioting in londonderry‘s creggan estate. the organisation known as the new ira has said it was behind the shooting and has offered what it's called a full and sincere apologies. the northern ireland secretary set out what had happened that night she said police had been carrying out searches, in londonderry looking for firearms and explosives. while the searches were being carried out a crowd gathered, three vehicles were hijacked, and set alight. the police came under attack with up to 50 petrol bombs thrown at police lines. during the disorder a gunman fired a number of shots in the direction of police wounding lyra mckee. showing incredible bravery while still under attack, officers attended two lyra whilst she was transported to hospital in a police vehicle. tragically neither those on the scene nor medical staff are able to save her. this
