but for now, from me, alicia mccarthy, goodbye. hello there.reaks of rain. that was the picture in the scottish borders during tuesday. there*s more rain to come on wednesday courtesy of this pipeline of cloud ploughing in from the southwest. first part of the day still brings met office amber warnings in force for parts of central and southern scotland. rain also affecting north—west england and wales. some patchy rain elsewhere. a few clear breaks, too, but a very mild start to the day. quite a windy start as well, although the winds will be easing just a little as we go through the day. we*ll see those outbreaks of rain continuing across parts of northwest england, parts of northwest wales, heading into southern and central scotland. a little bit brighter for parts of northern ireland and certainly the north of scotland, some sunny spells here, and where it stays dry and fairly bright with hazy sunshine for central and eastern parts of england, temperatures will get all the way up to 15, 16 or 17 degrees. as we head through wednesday night

but for now from me, alicia mccarthy, goodbye. hello there. in force. but to the south of that weather front, we've seen some exceptional warmth, and that's down to the wind direction. 18 was the warmest day of the year so far on wednesday, but we won't see a repeat of that despite the weather settling down because we lose that strong south—westerly and we pick up a brisk westerly wind across the atlantic. so, slightly cooler direction which will push in showers through the day ahead, some heavy showers as well. and our weather front is present further south, so very different complexion to the weather here. there could be some heavier bursts of rain, and it'll certainly be a much greyer, damper start across many southern, central and eastern parts of england. could be a little bit misty over the tops of the hills, and as i say, there could be some heavier pulses of rain working their way eastwards. might even linger in kent and essex until the evening, but much brighter skies further north. and then we run into the brisk westerly wind and lot

but for now, from me, alicia mccarthy, goodbye.tely across most of the uk. lots of sunshine, it feels like spring. the flowers are coming up. there's certainly more oomph to that sunshine, and there's every reason to believe the weather is going to stay settled for the next few days because of high pressure. but high pressure doesn't necessarily mean sunshine everywhere. in fact, it really does all depend on how the wind blows and where around the area of high pressure. and sometimes we get sort of lumps of cloud stuck in that high, and they may creep in from the coast well inland. so, it does mean that some areas in the morning could be pretty overcast. where the skies are clear overnight, there'll be a touch of frost in the morning, but elsewhere, it's going to be above freezing. so, this is what it might look like in some areas early on sunday morning, and in fact possibly even into the afternoon. here's an example. around lincolnshire, east anglia and down into the south east, possibly london, too, you may have to wait a while

but for now, from me, alicia mccarthy, goodbye.ory but i would hazard a guess that this is going to be one of the quieter weather weekends of the year so far. that's no bad thing. barely any rain out there, some occasional sunshine, fairly chilly at night. frost, fog a possibility, but it is all very quiet with high pressure right across us, just one weak weather front moving into that area of high pressure and that just lingers with a bit of cloud as we go through the weekend, barely any rain left with it by saturday morning but the cloud will have kept temperatures up overnight and into the morning through parts of scotland and northern ireland. it's eastern scotland, more especially in england and wales with the frost, maybe down to —4 or —5 in the coldest parts of southern england in the countryside, a few fog patches, parts of wales, west midlands and south—west england could be gradually clearing. and still maybe a bit of light rain to parts of northern ireland and southern scotland but that will tend to fizzle out and bring

but for now, from me, alicia mccarthy, goodbye. hello there. the weather across the uk. we started the week with heavy rain, particularly in the far north and west. then wednesday brought the warmest day of the year so far with temperatures peaking at 18 celsius. a little bit fresher for thursday, yes, but still highs of 12 or 13 degrees — that's above average for late february. all the warmth, however, has moved its way over to the near continent and a change of wind direction — a fresher westerly — meant that fresher feel to thursday's weather but again, those temperatures are still pretty good for late february. it does, however, mean that clear skies by day will lead to clear skies through the night, so we are going to see quite a chilly start to our friday morning. at dawn, those temperatures will be hovering around orjust below freezing in a few places. the only exception, the far north and west. a weak weather front toppling across high pressure will introduce a little more in the way of cloud, but it's all going to be about this high ov
