alison harmelin has the story. >>> reporter: law enforcement officials tell cbs news that reginald chancethe biker who used his helmet to smash the window of an suv. the caught on tape confrontation began when a mob of motorcycles swarmed the suv sunday on the upper west side in new york. the driver alexian lien, took off and ran over biker jay mieses. his attorney hired gloria allred for justice for mieses. >> the suv hit him while his back was turned. >> reporter: mieses is at st. luke's roosevelt hospital. his legs are broken and spine injured. he may be paralyzed for life. >> it tears me up that anyone could think that edwin in any way deserves what happened to him. >> reporter: police say mieses was operating the motorcycle without a license and hasn't had one since 1999. it's believed he was part of a stunt ride with more than 1,000 other bikers. new video shows the group running red lights the same day of the incident and weaving in and out of oncoming traffic. police have not charged the driver of the suv, whose wife made four 911 calls from the vehicle. on thursday, she issued a

alison harmelin reports from wjz with the late latest. >> reporter: police say they've arrested a bikerman was riding in his suv with his wife and 2-year-old daughter, when police say a mob of bikers surrounded him. one suddenly slowed down, causing the driver to clip him. the video shot on a biker's helmet camera, and posted on the internet, shows the suv mowing down a motorcyclist and taking off. but police say the driver was only trying to get away, after the biker swerved in flonts of his car and slashed his tires. then a swarm of bikers chased the suv. one of them tried to pull the driver from his range rover before he escaped again. >>> finally, the suv came to a stop. and the biker smashed the window. after the camera was turned off, a witness said the bikers dragged the driver out of the range rover and beat him. he received stitches at a hospital and was released. the biker who was run over suffered two broken legs and was on a ventularity. -- ventilator. >> my husband got off his bike to help the guy. and whatever he did, the guy got scared off and he parallel heis ized my --
