let's go to alison kosik at the new york stock exchange with the news. why is this?at's the good thing. you saw prices go up 1.3% from march to april. if you look over a year ago compare today a year ago home prices are lower. but, still, when you see that one-month move higher, that's a good sign. also, there have been other good signs in the housing market that things are slowly but surely getting better. home sales are slowly but surely getting better. you really want to see these home prices kind of find their bottom and start moving up. the hope is, brooke, at this point that this rise from march to april is a positive one that's going to stick, that's going to become a trend. then you can say with certainty that home prices have hit a bottom. and that's the good news that's actually kept stocks higher today. if you look at the board, the dow is up 47 points. we have about two minutes before the closing bell. that news has certainly helped stocks hold onto their gains today. we are watching financial shares bounce back after they took a big hit on monday. we saw

let's go to alison kosik.ws. >> reporter: no negative news is seen as a positive especially when you look at the debt problems happening in europe. they are seemingly endless. there's speculation as things get worse overseas central banks will take money to throw at the problems. many are questioning if it's enough. also, the fed is meeting next week. investors are hopeful there's going to be stronger language pointing to a stimulus. there's a new report showing that a typical american family is poorer today than before the recession. a family's median net worth fell to $77,000 from $126,000 between 2007 and 2010. the biggest reason, home values tumbled. that's people's biggest assess. it's getting a little better. americans net worth has been recovering since 2010. people are finding work again. housing prices are coming back. it will take years and years if the families will get close to where they were before. that's my bit of good news. >> we'll take it. now, rapid fire. roll it. >>> right now as we speak

alison kosik is at the new york stock exchange. ain what the bacnks were doing to rip us off. >> the customers in this lawsuit, it focuses on pnc's lawsuit, pnc bank actually. what they say was that the bank's computer system actually resequenced the order in which they made their debit and atm transactions. so what the bank is accused of doing is posting them from the highest to the lowest dollar amount. instead of the actual order that people made their purchases. so what that ended up doing is making these accounts become depleted of money faster. and these plaintiffs say it caused them to overdraw and get hit with more of these overdraft charges than they would have. and when you consider what these overdraft fees are, it's a big deal. they range from $25 to $30 at most banks. we did talk to pnc this morning. they said they don't comment on litigation but the bank is looking closer at its overdraft policies. i'm sure it is. >> well, that makes me feel a lot better. is this suit the primary reason that chase, for example, elimina
