let's go straight to our business correspondent alison kosik standing with a trader there on the floord alison, i can't wait to hear from him, but quickly what are you hearing as far as when it will resume? >> you know there's a lot of skepticism from many traders that i talked with. they are saying this is just a waiting game and they are not -- they are very skeptical that the market is going to open in literally one and a half minutes. they don't see it happening. what do you think? peter tuckman here with me, a trader on the floor, a longtime trader on the floor. you just yelled turn the machines back on. >> turn the machines back on. are we actually going to reopen today? i'm not really sure. we were told between 2:45 and 3:00 we'd start getting the systems back up. the closing bell is really important. to be on the floor of the exchange and the closing bell is kind of one of the things we do so i think they will shoot with it. don't have enough information. they did promise we will reopen open so i would presume we will. >> why is it important to reopen even if they aren't ready?

let's go straight to alison kosik reporting live from there right now.ading back and resuming? do we know anything more about what happened? >> trading here at the new york stock exchange has halted. it is not happening. business here is frozen, has been frozen now, ashleigh, for about a half hour. this is about a technical glitch. this isn't a regulatory halt. it's nothing that had to do that we can tell with a fat finger but we don't want to speak to early on that. traders are telling me that before the opening bell rang this morning at 9:30, the new york stock exchange actually gave out a list of many, many stocks about possibly problematic stocks. now, what they mean by that i'm still trying to figure out, but they included stocks across a wide range. they included kate spade, nordstrom, korea electric power. these were some of the companies on this list that the new york stock exchange distributed before the opening bell to the traders here in new york here at the new york stock exchange but then came this halt in trading. the trader i talked with s

let's bring in money correspondent alison kosik. a record high. >> nasdaq hitting that record high. up 9% for the year. investors reacted from strong shares of netflix and google. the company made $3 billion in profits last quarter. egg prices climbing thanks to the bird flu outbreak last winter. 85% spike from may to june. a largest one-month hike in history. demand will likely pick up in the fall while supply remains low. >>> is amazon prime day the new black friday? amazon says there were 18% more orders placed wednesday during prime day than on last year's black friday. which was the biggest ever. the company also said it got more prime subscribers for the sale than any other day in its 20-year history. as customers bought a lot, they complained on social media about the lack luster deals and quick sellouts. i like one tweet. it is not black friday it's april fool's day. >> some clever things. >>> alison, thank you. alison kosik is here with me. really? >> really. it's coming to a gas station near you.ion is, by december. an analyst with the oil information service says that as soon as we clear labor day, his expectation is you'll see gas prices cut by anywhere from ten to 15 cents a gallon. why is that happening? it's simple supply and demand. right now there's an oversupply or a glut of oil not just here in the u.s. but globally. you have less demand as you see economies showing down in europe and in china. so what happens? you see oil prices drop like a rock. did you know that oil prices have fallen almost 20% just this month? of course this price now of oil around $47 a barrel getting close to the lows we saw in march. this is the second time around we've seen oil really get hit. we saw prices fall $100 over a series of a couple of months last summer. this is sort of round two. you can expect to see gas prices really get to that $2 level on average by december. >> what if it hits $1.99? >> imagine that. >> it would be like going back in time. >> right. >> i can't remember that f

alison kosik is monitoring this from the floor.mans and cnn global economic analyst. let's start at the exchange. tell us what's happening right now. >> reporter: it feels like business as usual. i'm seeing traders bustle around. i don't know if you see them running by me making trades. it's like yesterday didn't happen. earlier before that opening bell rang a lot of traders told me they were cautiously optimistic that trading today would go smoothly. that's after the floor of the exchange was basically shut down for almost four hours after a technical glitch. yesterday the president of the new york stock exchange said they had found the problem and fixed it. in the statement they called it a configuration issue, which in computer speak means some settings weren't put out there properly when the nyse launched some new software the previous evening. now comes the concern from traders about whether the new york stock exchange could take a hit to its reputation. one trader jokingly told me i'm worried the new york stock exchange is go

i'm alison kosik. a mixed bag for stocks. stocks in china are falling 2%.ly moving. yesterday, the dow climbed 121 points. the fed reserve upgraded the economic outlook. >>> facebook is now the world's most popular tech product. 1.5 billion people use facebook at least once a month. that is more than the windows operating system. facebook built features that capitalize on data it collects on you and uses it through targeted ads. ad sales got close to $4 billion last quarter. that is up 43% in a year. >>> the government is going after the university of phoenix. federal trade commission investigating it for the for-profit college in deceptive tactics. university of phoenix must hand over marketing and tuition and military recruitment practices going back to 2011. the school is losing half students in the past five years. this is part of a crackdown on for-profit schools that leave students with loads of debt and few real prospects. >>> has malaysia airline 370 been found? >> alison kosik, thanks so much. while the new york stock exchange is insists a technical issue short-sishted it federal investigators are sifting through the evidence. to make sure they're mishaps, not if cyberbreaches or coordinated. jay johnsing said he spoke with the ceo of united and said at this point there's no indication these were caused by ner fairius actor. >> but it is mysterious at this point. three major u.s. operations at a standstill today because of the computer glitches. right now at least two of the three operations say this was not the work of hackers. the new york stock exchange calling it a technical issue. united airlines blaming it on a faulty rueter and we still don't know the cause of the "wall street journal's" computer problems but the confluence of tech failures in one day within hours of each other, a strange coincidence, to say the least. from california to chicago, a backlog of passengers stuck on long airport lines while all of united airlines' flights were grounded. >> how long is th

alison kosik, if you can tell me, give me a sense of the outage happening for three hours, what are you hearing about exactly why this may have happened? are they able to determine the technical reason? >> we heard from the new york stock exchange president who said that they found what was wrong. and that they fixed it. he says there is no evidence no reason that this technical glitch was external. now he is not sure if it is related to a software glitch the nyse did roll out new software last night. but, what he did say was that all of the trades up until 11:30 they weren't going through 100%. and the nyse president said he made the decision to stop trading. but now there of course is going to be a full review as to what exactly went down here. >> alison we'll wait for the findings. want to bring in chief national security correspondent jim sciutto, you look at the timing it looks like an awful coincidence? >> they're saying it was an awful coincidence. fbi sprang into action to investigate it as it was happening very quickly. after the united and new york stock exchange glitches depa
