good morning and welcome to aljazeera america. i'm stephanie sy. >> i'm del walters. >> a massive rescue operation underway after a deadly mine explosion in turkey, that accident happening near istanbul. >> 205 are dead and hundreds more still trapped inside. rescue crews have been pumping oxygen down into the mine. you can see a live picture of the ongoing efforts. they are trying to keep survivors alive. >> this accident happened after an explosion more than a mile underground. we have the latest. >> with each one of the dead or injured pulled out, the extent of the accident becomes clearer to families and fellow miners. the number of dead is expected to rise, 101 still not accounted for. 787 people were inside the mine at the time of the explosion. more than usual, as workers were preparing for a shift change. >> we had been working in a mine nearby. >> an electrical fault is blamed. it affected a lift, making it difficult to escape. 420 meters underground, the rescue mission is a difficult task and had to be temporarily halted
