the defense is expected to rest its case today in allan kustok's murder trial. prosecutors say kustok shot his wife in her bed, four years ago. the defense says she committed suicide. a man tried to escape a courtroom after being ordered into custody. william poindexter ran from the bridgeview courthouse after he failed a drug test at a probation violation hearing yesterday. two sheriff's deputies were injured while trying to stop him. a person nearby also suffered a minor cut while trying to help the officers. poindexter was later arrested near a field across from the courthouse. police are trying to figure out why a 19 year old man was lying in the road before he was hit by at least two cars in north suburban lincolnwood. aaron thal was found lying face down on touhy near kostner avenue. both drivers told police they did not see him. investigators are trying to determine if thal might have been the victim of an earlier hit-and-run crash. a federal judge denied bond to a couple charged with a cross- country shoplifting scheme. branko and lela bogdanov, and thei

defense attorneys for allan kustok challenged a forensic scientist's findings at kustok's murder trial. the orland park businessman is charged with murdering his wife anita in 2010. scientist rod englert is a key witness for the prosecution. he faces more cross- examination this morning. the defense is expected to offer its *own forensics experts after the prosecution rests. a northwestern university philospohy professor, accused of sexually attacking a student two years ago, will sit out his final two lectures of the current quarter. and it's not clear whether peter ludlow will return when the next quarter begins at the end of the month. students protested the school's refusal to fire ludlow. he denies any wrongdoing... and the school says it investigated the alleged assault thoroughly. chicago's city council approved a ban on the sale of puppies, kittens or rabbits from large- scale breeding operations, or so-called puppy mills. the vote was 49 to one. the ban takes effect in a year. and a proposed ordinance would make paid sick days required for all chicago employers. animals sold i
