but we wanted all of that to change. we for many years kids of immigrants, we always felt it was our duty to take up what maybe our parents and our friends were not able to out of fear or out of the lack of government action or accountability, or even a safety net for people to be able to speak freely. taking all of that immigrant life lessons and now placing them in effect i have culturally competent programs was our task. and, so, back in 2010 we tried to do that, and i think we did very well in the census count by bringing forth so many groups to be counted and not to be afraid and not to be experiencing consequences. but the census was only the beginning. we knew that. and in our follow-up conversations with dr. hernandez who helped lead a lot of the community-based efforts as well as conversations with foundations and grants, with people like annie chung and others who are community leader, with different ethnicities, and i mean all ethnicities. not just ones that dominate, immigrants in san francisco like asians an

and those things all come through facebook and all those kind of thing. but then when you want to go after them, it's so difficult because it's dealing with the u.s. [inaudible]. >> [inaudible]. >> how is that working out for you? i'm sorry about that. with that being said, too, one other thing i want to throw out. my detail has been shadowed by people from all over the world. australia, london. if anybody ever wants to come to phoenix and hang out with us for a couple days and see, maybe do some golfing with me and stuff, too, spying. we're open all the time for anybody to come. we're trying to get something like these people to come to phoenix, some time in the future to host one of these conferences. by all means, if you need anything again, i cannot stress to you enough, if i can't get you the answer i'll find the answer. i know a lot of people know. make sure you get hold of us. now that you have intel and a tager, you want to try examine go after, what do you do? this is all stuff that i've been successful with and maybe it can be successful for you

and i do want to have people of all languages and all heritages telling us how they want our parks tomanaged, how they want community safety, how they want transportation to be had, all these things everybody else gets to do, and they weigh in pretty heavily. but i want full participation of that. and until we get so, we'll always feel we're not representing everybody in this city. and, so, this effort is to get to the additional 100,000 permanent residents to encourage them to get to the citizenship, enjoy all those benefits. those benefits are numerous. you're going to be able to situate yourself in better jobs. you're going to get qualified for training programs that are only offered sometimes to citizenships. you're going to always obviously we want to improve your language capabilities so that you're able to navigate these employment training programs and all the other engaging programs that we have. san francisco is the innovation capital of the world and in that way all of the different ethnicities that arrive in san francisco of all different backgrounds need to be part of thi

all of you.hen i was asked to do this project i had to always think of my own inaccurate door neighbor that was the first high-rise in san francisco that broke the rectangle of shapes that did hug the streets. i choose to do that when i think of san francisco i think p of the city on the bay where shapes used to come and still come from all over the world where people sale but it's difficult to do a design for the next generation of a building and that's what i tried to do here because there were some features that made infinity successful the curvature panoramic views along the sweeping kufrz of the neighborhood. that was more romantic picturesque and had formed. in looking at this design we sought to capitalize on those things but still do something that was different. but this building a new one we've designed is instead a series of glass place of residence that are rotating about the building and as they climb to the top they reach the top to create a crown while the base is a creative rectan

i suspect it is true for all the officials here, we all came from other parts of the country to this very sacred space called san francisco. and my guess is everyone here, you either came from somewhere else, or you are the child of the grandchild of someone who decided to pick up from another dock from another part of the world to be where we are today. and, in fact, over 160 years ago, this was the embarkation point for thousands of immigrants, particularly the first asian immigrants to this very spot. and i think it's very, very special that we are rededicating it as a community space. it takes a village for us to build a park and i want to very much add the thanks to the so many city staff that came together who monique and mayor lee have already mentioned, but i want to thank in particular the port for your leadership over the many years, all the departments, mayor lee. i also want to thank an agency that i had the pleasure of serving on that many members of the public don't know much about, the bcdc, the bacon certification development commission.
