allen c-span viewers, welcome. minorities wrongly think the republicans do not like them or want them in the country. what now? mr. priebus: well, that is part of being in the community and i think people can write all the books in the world they want about how to communicate, but if you are not in the community, if you're not going to learn about your party -- mr. priebus: there are two parts of this. if you're not there in the community trying to talk about our party, talk about school businessalk about owners. if something is not there, nothing will change. you also need to have the telenet at the top be the kind of tone that people believe obviously you like them. in people do not think you like them they are not going to vote for you. is work to do and i think there is work on tone to do. i have been clear about that and said it many times. it is not raking news. i have said that simply. mr. allen: have you said that to him? mr. priebus: i have. and he understands it. i think he gets it. i think you are going

allen: that's a surprising hobby? mr priebus: i don't know if it's surprising that the tank stuff is a hobby. hobby that is good for relaxing. i've been getting better because of an practicing a lot more lately. mr. allen: what do you enjoy playing? mr priebus: i like giving around. i like playing anything. classical, jazz, blues, anything. to let the sheet music. mr. allen: will we see you playing in cleveland? mr priebus: doubtful of possible. mr. allen: what job if you have if you were not rnc chairman? mr priebus: i was a lawyer for 14 years in milwaukee. -- is wanted to be a pilot always wanted to be a pilot. mr. allen: what? [laughter] mr priebus: my debt is a pilot and he built an airplane in the garage. it lives or have the year in texas with a have a hangar in a grass runway with other folks that do the same thing on the lake. there was a little bit of a latent passion for being a pilot. if all else fails, i would like to be a catcher in the milwaukee brewers bullpen. not a real catcher, just catching bowls i

allen: they do not feel intimidated.shed act ors and actresses who work with many directors and films. they do very, very well. they have no problem at all. they come in, and the atmosphere is relaxed. i have great respect for the instinct of the actors. it's very easy for them. >> i thought since you had so much free time on your hands -- >> he travels a lot. and i like spending my time with you. that's ok. you're very sweet. have you heard that before? you have this dear in the headlights quality. >> thank you. i would your boyfriend, not travel. or if i did, i would take you with me. >> that's between us. society," we find these themes we have found it so much of your work. this one feels particularly poignant because there's a lot about choices. tell me one choice perhaps you have made in your life that you regret, perhaps a movie you wish you had not made. mr. allen: i have so many regrets, i don't know where to begin. i regret dropping out of school when i was younger. i regret maybe not going into a maybe i regret

allen: yeah. i think that it is also, it is just another, i think we've heard here that this is just going to be sort of another pressure on the health care sector, which parts of which have a lot of financial and other strains. and unfortunately this was an unforeseen consequence of i think, unforeseen by most of the meaningful use program and the effort to get the, the needed effort to get computers into medical offices. and so. that is it. ms. kenan: and it was such a push to get the adoption of the electronic health record that there was not enough. mr. allen: i think most people suddenlyoresee that they were going to be it was , going to make the health care system vulnerable in a new way. ms. kenan: a whole new bag of cards. mr. allen: i think there were probably some who did. but any other closing thoughts? mr. mikel: i think one thing that, one thing that bears repeating is we hear a lot about how you need the board to get involved. and you need senior leadership on this. one important thi

how true what you learned from ewe mean allen and mrs.-- eugene allen and mrs. allen was the movie? >> guest: yeah. well, i learned a lot about the movie-making business, you know, being on the set and being associate producer of the movie. that was fun. but there was a great screenwriter, danny strong, who wrote a beautiful script. and lee daniels had told me in a meeting, he said is what i want to do with your story, wil, is open it up. i really want to cover the whole arc of the civil rights movement which had really never been done on the big screen in this country. hollywood had sort of been are reticent to tell epic stories of this nature. so lee daniels, the director, wanted to do that. he had this family, and so the story was going to be anchored to this family. and, you know, in all these historic ups and downs of the civil rights movement. now, there were some changes from the actual story to the movie. but the theme of the whole movie, i feel, stayed true to the story. there was one big difference. charles, the son of the butler, he did go to vietnam, but he survived. in

allen is the former chairman of jcpenney. allen, always great to get your take. >> how are you, melissa? >> great. if you were in jcpenney, what would you do in there? >> i think anybody heavily in the apparel business, which most of these department stores are, they suffered a tough first quarter. and i think a tough last quarter, fourth quarter of last year. i think there's a lack of newness in the marketplace. i think there's been a tremendous focus on the internet. i would say at the expense of the department store bricks and mortar, the bricks and mortar still represent 90% of the business. they're taking a lot of money out of their operating statement to put it into the internet. at the expense of what they need to do in the stores, which make the stores exciting. the stores have to be theater, just like the mall. if you don't put the money into it and don't put the service into it, the employees, customers into it, you're going to lose the customers' reason for shopping. if you don't create demand, and that's what we h

what's the difference between cornel west and allen west? >> guest: well, allen west actually endorsed my book. he was a member of congress in florida. he's a great friend of mine, i've learned a lot from allen west, you know, just was very friendly with him when he was a congressman, and cornel west is a professor at princeton. i think cornel west has come out to support bernie sanders. cornel west, i mention, i think, throughout the book because cornel west, in my opinion, is part of the race hustle movement. and i put him in -- i lump him in a category with al sharpton because cornel west is always trotted out by the mainstream media when we need, quote, black spokespeople. and, you know, when i was growing up, my parents never gave me a memo that i had to have black people speak on my behalf, because my parents grew up during the segregated south, and they were called the n-word, my parents had to sit in the back of the bus in richmond, virginia. so they always taught me to peek for myself as a -- to speak for myself as a black woman. so

allen: general allen: it is a really important point that is about the security of the border and security inside with the future state of palestine. the approach we took when i let the process was to, again, look very hard at a trilateral process and a regime of cooperation, where we would see an intelligence fusion capacity where all three parties participated, which would hand off developing intelligence to an operational entity, a fused operational entity, which would be emphasizing a palestinian counterterrorism capability, a swat entity of some form or another. then go through the process of building the intelligence and target package, launching on the mission, and as we typically see coming off the objective with detainees, that goes to your point, not just the capacity about running the technical operation, but having the capacity to run the judicial process that follows to hold people accountable and then have the capacity to detain them in a credible way, in a process that does not enhance the inherent increase of extremism we frequently see in detention processes. it is not an

allen? . liz: yes., governor allen. >> well, as you know, on your show, i endorse marco rubio months and months ago. liz: right. correct? >> and i think the way i look at it now is that you have a choice between an authentic socialist, an untrustworthy liberal, and a successful businessman. and so the choice, for me, out of that is i would prefer the trustful businessman on at least economic issues and a lot of reservations with donald trump statements on some issues. but i think on the economy, if he will come forward with coherent, positive ideas to make our country more competitive for investment and jobs and energy policies and raining in the regulations and so forth, that's an easy choice to be a successful businessman rather than a socialist or a liberal. liz: sure i've just heard you say a big if there. it almost sounds like you're with perhaps paul ryan, the speaker of the house who see has yet given that full throated endorsement. >> no. i'm -- liz i'm -- liz: compromise? >> well, the reason i

allen: can you hand him the microphone, please? mr. kamen: that's really a terrific question, although we support the decision, it's not just for the state. first, it is ground up. we have a regional set of directors. in some states we have three, like in california. they work with local education agencies to promote the first concept. to bring it into their school with funding. you would need to work with organizations that have a local footprint and many of the engine -- organizations do. that is at least my opinion. >> if every student in every state and county's four h, one reason we have taken to collaborating with them is because we have 50 of what we call those education grants in each college. whether is the massive consortium. 50 of them around the country. it's in hundreds of counties. every single county in the country. nasa now teams with them to provide the content. we provide information on science, engineering, you name it and it gets out to every county in the country. that's one way, with someone who asked the question

allen martin with a look at the recent cases. allen. >> reporter: ken, this is the third such incident rocking san francisco police department since december. put there's certainly others. on march 21, 2014, four officers opened fire on 27-year- old alex nieto in bernal heights park after he allegedly pointed a stun gun at them. the officers say they thought it was pay pistol. his death sparked protests. february 26 of 2015, 21-year- old lopez was gunned down in the mission district. officers say they shot him in self-defense. the coroner found that he was shot several times in the back. then on december 2, 2015, cell phone video shows a moment when police fired as many as 15 rounds at 26-year-old mario woods on a bayview district sidewalk. he had refused to drop a knife and had just stabbed a man. then most recently april 7, surveillance video shows police arriving on scene in the mission district after receiving a complaint about a homeless man. second later just out of view of the camera, they shoot and killed 45-year-old luis

palmer and allen. you both co-authored a task force report about 21 horse deaths at a track in new york. what did you learn? what did you find? >> well, we were commissioned by governor andrew cuomo at the time to look into the injuries at aqueduct racetrack, and we conducted a five-month investigation, and we interviewed hundreds of individuals. we hired scientists to review reames of data, and after we had examined all the factor that is contributed to these horses' injuries, we felt as though there were many causes. there's not one single cause that causes this type of problem, and we felt though that most importantly, we felt that at least half of those cases there were opportunities for missed intervention. and so we made a number of sweeping recommendations that have been carried out in new york. interestingly, when that happened in 2012, the fatality rate at the time of the aqueduct injuries was twice the national average. >> wow. >> and then we implemented these recommendations in 2013, and the
