allen schauffler is in arlington, washington, not far from oso what can you tell us allen? >> that huge landslide hit a couple of dais ago, joie. we can tell you they had to pull a couple of the search and rescue out of the that slide zone. they're worried about further slides coming down so that a portion at least of the search and rescue eferl rescue effort e pulled down. they had se sonar, dog teams one scene, as well, and we understand about 100 people on foot looking through the debris from 30 or so homes that were wiped out by that slide. we now understand about 15 million cubic yards of earth that came thundering out of the cascade foothills wiped out a neighborhood and search and rescue officials admit they do not have an exact number of how many people are missing. they are chasing down 108 separate reports of missing people. they say a lot of those may be overlaps, publicly they are saying this is still a rescue operation and with every passing hour those miracles seem more and more likely. joie. >> allen i was in this area miefl. this imyself. this has had landsl

our own afn schauffler is in seattle where boeing has a huge operation. allen i know you're trying to get set up. what can you tell us? >> we are having contact with the company, they are keeping an eye on the situation, monitoring, nothing more than that. normally in this kind of situation, aviation experts tell us that boeing will send a team, an investigative team to a crass site, if a crash is found. but generally they'll wait until that is identified, they'll be asked to come in and they'll be on their way, you can bet on that. this plane is made in everett, one of boeing's safest planes, 300 more are on order right now, and the air miles that they've flown are pretty staggering. 18 millionaire miles. more than 5 million flights and just one flight or one accident rather that resulted in fatalities. people probably remember the asiana airlines, last year that was the only 777 accident that, crash that involved a fatality. boeing hanging on with the rest of us waiting to see what happens in terms of this malasian airlines john. >> boeing is contacted immedi

allen schauffler, after seven days of searching what new do we know? where do things stand right now? >> well, they stand here. there's a horrible site, the landslide site just downstream from us. terrible conditions that people are working under. they are searching for bodies in the muck and mire of this hillside that slufd off and came down -- sloughed off and came down and wiped out this neighborhood. it is an open ended job and job that's being processed that they're work on under truly gruesome conditions. >> crews are finding bodies in the field. it is a very, very slow process. it was miserable to begin with and as you all know it's rained heavily in the last few days, it's made the quicksand even worse. i can't tell you how long this will last and if they find bodies, when they do but right now there's no telling. >> there's no telling. they're still out there work and working under horrifying conditions. we understand the crews are not out on the debris field at night. they stopped that a couple of nights ago. they may be doing road building a

allen schauffler is live for us in arlington, washington. allen, if you would anything new on the search for survivors? credit. >> well, we can tell you tony, that they will have people out at the scene overnight. a limited number of search cruise will be searching the areas they can get in safely, the areas they can light back in the debris area. really a tough day in northwest washington. they are saying this is still a rescue effort. that's what they're calling it publicly and officially. but they saw no signs of life in the debris field today, as you mentioned just the opposite. another six bodies found as we head into the third night since this huge slide hit. emergency crews are throwing everything into the third day of this search. hover craft sent in from up river. dog teams helping ground crews are hoping to get to every corner of the huge landslide. it's now estimated 15 million cubic yards of earth smashed down out of the cascade mountain foothills destroying or damaging 30 homes. >> i want to let everyone know that the situation i

allen schauffler is there. what is the latest? >> it's not unusual in this part of the country, at this time of year to have massive mudslides like this, especially in the foothills of the north cascades. what is unusual is the human cost east of i-5, in oso in washington. four dead. 18 more missing. take a look at the latest video. news crews were allowed in. it was complete devastation. half a mile of a state highway alongside the river, north fork, inundated. and in the mud and the trees mixed in you see the remains of houses. there's reports of as many as 30 different structures wipeded out. a dramatic scope, devastation. the governor called it that as he flew over it with other officials. we see these things, but not like this, with this sort of effect. people in the area trying to come to grips with it all today. >> it's been rough for the community. a lot of lives lost. it's tough. >> it's been surreal. the tragedy is unthinkable. the community, as stated before many times, comes together. friend helps friend and family hel

. >> tough story, allen schauffler for us. jonathan betz in the area to give us a better understanding of exactly what happened here. jonathan. >> reporter: yes, the scale is quite large. it's a very small town north of seattle close to 200 people live there. right now searchers are focusing on 49 homes and buildings just east of the town of oso. many of these buildings are in the path of this landslide. a huge chunk of the mountain gave way, came down the hillside, across a river and into this neighborhood. it's called the steel head neighborhood. all that rock and debris spread across a highway and took out even more homes. this mudslide stretched over a mile from end to end, and the mud supply to 15 feet deep in some places. rescuers are now trying to find all of these structures now buried. it's not just homes but cabins, mobile homes, vacation properties. 14 people have been killed, including reportedly this woman, linda mcpherson. she lived in this house, reportedly her husband was seriously heard. 69 years old, she used

. >> allen schauffler for us. darington, washington. >>> there is cautious optimism in the search of missing malaysian fly 370. satellites spot objects that could be missing plane debris from the flight. >> reporter: the latest sighting came from a french satellite of 120 objects venue over strewn 4 square mile area in the indian ocean. what is interesting, they have found roughly in the same area where satellites have spotted other possible debris from the missing plane, satellites from china, france, and from australia. this is the same area where planes and ships have been looking for debris from the plane. unfortunately so far they have not managed to retrieve any debris from the ocean. they cannot say conclusively that there is a match with 370. australia is in charge of the search in the southern indian ocean. it's a multi national effort including nations such as japan, new zealand, the u.s. china, australia, of course. and the prime minister of australia says notwithstanding, the failure to find the plane
