big issue for the alliance, the alliance's relationship with russia. this isn't to say russia has a veto on membership, but there is a significant number of allies that believe the priority should be getting nato's relationship with russia right with a balance between deterrence and dialogue before adding more members. we are missing the third criteria, consensus. worse than the current situation where georgia is not a member is the situation where the alliance launches into this effort towards membership but is unable to reach consensus. and therefore makes very public the divide within the alliance. i think we are in a time of consolidation among the 30 current members while we work out nato's relationship with russia. that would move us well into the other two questions. extendingch is membership to mexico. when i had the discussion with i was like that one seems a bit further to me then georgia. i would like to bring in ambassador pierce. this was very much directed towards bringing in the population of the united states to feel that nato is doing

this has been our issue in the korea alliance in the past four years. one of the first things is to get those things done. i think there were good negotiations that took place. as you put it in the past, mark, it is low hanging fruit, and we should get those done so we can send the signal that we are ready to focus more on the bigger strategic issues. on the india-china relationship, that is one i am quite worried about. that is a relationship where there aren't really strong established patterns of cooperation, established patterns of interaction, not cooperation -- just interaction in terms of dispute resolutions. no institutions through which to filter some of these conflicts. it is like the west combination of things, i mean, the chinese see the indians as a proxy for us. pakistan sees us as a proxy for china. a bad situation. that is where we have to focus quite a bit of attention for us to prevent miscalculations or unintended practices. mark: i will always look out for low hanging fruit my kids love apples and grapes so i get what i can. you.over
