allie rasmus has more. >> reporter: this is the carnival cruise ship splendor right here behind us. you can see some of the repair work has already begun. there's two cranes working on the -- off the back end of the ship. if we pan down below that, we can see a large group of people walking along the ship. this pier pulled into pier 70 in san francisco yesterday. it's a bit infamiliar use, this shape made headlines a few months ago for some of the wrong reasons. back on november, a fire knocked out power to the entire ship. that left 4500 passengers s tranded on board without electricity, food or without working toilets. the cruise ship was on its way to baja, california when it happened. this ship is in the process of getting a new engine in san francisco. an incredible amount of work is going into those repairs. the deputy of the port says at any given time there are at least 800 people working to repair this ship. the people working are all local bay area workers. so the port deputy says this provides a boost to the low local economy. >> it will mean thousands of hours for prayer
