allie rasmus is live near the scene.are currently searching for one driver involved. what have you learned about that person? >> reporter: at that point, we don't know much about him. all chp could tell us, is that the car was driving, involved in this accident is registered to an address in daly city. we don't know if that's the person who was behind the wheel when this happened. we can show you where it happened, right here behind us on eastbound 80. just before the carlson boulevard onramp. it happened just before 5:00 this morning. one person died. that person was driving a pontiac sedan, according to firefighters burst into flames shortly after impact. two other people were hospitalized with serious injuries. richmond firefighters were called to the scene. they said some of the people who witnessed the crash tried to help by pulling the injured out of their cars. a fourth person fled the scene. witnesses said he jumped over the median, and ran across westbound 80 to get away. >> we have the passenger from his vehicl

mike martin vanished on saturday possibly while on a bike ride just a short timing a ktvu's allie rasmus spoke to the missing man's girlfriend. allie, what can you tell us? >>> >> reporter: right now we are on tunnel road in the oakland berkeley hills. you can see from the bike path this is a very popular route for cyclists. the 29-year-old frequently road his bike through this area but on saturday somebody found his cell phone on the ground right here on tunnel road. that caused his family to become concerned especially after he did not return back to his berkeley apartment on saturday night. now this is a picture of the 29- year-old cyclist. he said he has not been seen since saturday afternoon. he is 6 feet tall, brown hair and brown eyes working on his phd in physics at uc berkeley. his girlfriend says martin used to be a professional cyclist and feels very comfortable on the bike. he knows how to navigate hills but worries he may have been malnourished because he had recently been researching how to do juice diets and how to fast. >> if he was going down a windy road, things he usua

allie rasmus is in san francisco with the latest. >> reporter: when bryan stow was beaten he not only suffered serious head injuries. his attackers first and disabled his tongue and slashed his face. meanwhile los angeles police have arrested two new suspects in connection with the crimes. 29-year-old louis sanchez and 30-year-old marvin norwood are expected to appear in court today for the first time. they are both facing federal charges. the arraignment is scheduled for 8:30 this morning. charlie beck announced the arrest of sanchez and norwood on sunday. the police department asked not to release the pictures of the suspects. but police say the suspect resemble the sketches released by police. now the man seen here is giovanni ramirez. ramirez said he was not even at the game when the attack happened. ramirez has been cleared. sanchez and norwood remain behind bars, they are being held on $5,000 bail. allie rasmus, ktvu news. >>> in overnight news, police in east palo alto are investigating a shooting that left one person dead and another injured. it happened in a parking lot near

ktvu's allie rasmus joining us now with the questions surrounding the soda the girls were drinking. allie. >> reporter: well, right now we are at the sonoma county sheriff's department headquarters in santa rosa. the sheriff's office is the agency investigating the death of this 14-year-old girl. and right now the information we're getting from the sheriff's office is that this happened some time saturday night into early sunday morning. four teenage girls got together for a weekend sleepover at a home in santa rosa on foothill ranch road. at some point during the night all four teens became violently ill after passing around a soda with an unknown substance in it. the parents at first thought it was just food poisoning. the parents hosting this sleepover. but on sunday morning when they tried to wake one of the four teenagers she did not respond. paramedics were called to the home and paramedics pronounced that the girl had died. sonoma county sheriff's violent crimes investigative detectives are the ones looking into this death. the cause of the 14-year-old's death is unknown at th

allie rasmus spoke to the missing man's girlfriend. back now with the very latest on this. >> reporter: we're on tunnel road in the oakland hills. you can see from the sign here, this is a very popular route for cyclists. all morning long we've seen people going up and down this hill on their bikes this. is where mike martin may have gone for a bike ride saturday afternoon. saturday, more than two days ago, was the last time his friends and family saw and heard from him. on saturday evening, another cyclist found martin's cell phone on the side of the road. his cell phone was found on tunnel road on skyline. martin's girlfriend says that cell phone is the only clue she and the family have to go ton right now. she's contacted berkeley police and they've contacted and sent out alerts to other law enforcement agencies and regional parks -- the regional park systems to keep on the lookout for him. his girlfriend says he's an engineer at uc berkeley's lab. he's working on a ph.d. in knissics. she also said -- physics. she also said he had b

ktvu allie rasmus is joining us live. she is on treasure high land with what is being cut in place. >> reporter: it's called a cat walk. the last of four of them will go in place sometime in the next couple of weeks. if i step aside we can get a better view of the cat walks. there are three of them instead l already. three of them were installed already. the three of them attached to the top of that tower on the new eastern span of the bay bridge. we also have video to show you of the cat walks in full daylight. they are the reddish orange strips. iran workers will be walking on the cat walks. they will use them to install the main suspension cable on the new bay bridge. workers will be attached to the cat walks with ropes and harnesses. in some areas they be doing their work at a very steep 35- degree angle. now again the last of four of these cat walks is supposed to be in place sometime by the end of the month or early next month. we will be hoping to talk to cal tran to find out what is happening next in the next phas

ktvu channel 2 reporter allie rasmus joins us now to talk about how this fire started. allie. >> reporter: well, firefighters say the smoke detector in that apartment unit was not going off when they arrived, however the unit's sprinkler system did activate. and firefighters say that may have helped save the mother and her baby daughter's life. it all happened around 2:00 this morning at the hill top commons apartments in san pablo. we are not allowed on the property, but earlier this morning we did get inside the apartment building where this all started. firefighters say the woman who lives there fell asleep with a pot on the stove. the smoke triggered the apartment's sprinkler system and that system also alerted neighbors there was a problem. >> there was water coming underneath the apartment door of the unit next to my unit where -- and i could smell the smoke coming out of the unit. >> the threat was not from fire. the threat was from smoke. the bedroom door was open. the entire apartment was charred full of smoke and another five minutes it would have been much dif

allie rasmus is in the city with a live report on what led up to this accident. >> reporter: this is where it happened. this is the construction site for the transbay transit center. it's sunday morning, so there's no construction activity right now, there is questions on when it could resume because of that accident. there are different accounts of exactly what went wrong. pg and e says the worker sawed through a power line. late last night, a spokesperson told ktvu, a worker was actually driving an excavator, and that the machine hit the power line. we're still trying to get clarification on that. the construction worker suffered third degree burns to his hands and face. the pg and e crews came to the scene after the accident happened to reroute electricity around the site. there was power here yesterday. pg and e explained. >> it's not always feasible in some cases to cut power to many, many customers while a construction project is. just as it won't be feasible to cut their power, water, sewer, gas, or service for many years. >> reporter: the new transit center is scheduled to op

ktvu allie rasmus joins us now with another piece that is getting ready to go in place. >> reporter: they are called cat walks. right now it's too dark to see them from where we are standing on treasure island. the only thing we can show you is a pretty nice view of the iran span of the bay bridge it will up. but drivers may have already noticed the first two cat walks when they were installed earlier this summer. what are they? they are the reddish orange strips connected to the top of the bay bridge tower. there are three already in place preponderate fourth and last one is supposed to be installed in late july, early august. any time in the next couple of weeks. iron workers will rely on these cat walks. they will use them to help install the main suspension cable on the bridge. the work earns will be connected to the cat walks with ropes and harnesses as they do their challenging and difficult work. in some spots they will doing that work at a 35-degree angle. they can't start that work until all the cat walks are installed. the last of four of them are supposed to be in place in

ktvu allie rasmus is there. tells us their plane almost landed right into the watson vail community hospital. >> reporter: now it's a little lighter out here. there is crime scene tape spanning the parking lot. this is the parking lot of the watsonville community hospital. when this single engine crashed it hit the pavement. then it skidded 75 yards across the parking lot before it slammed into the front lobby of this medical office building. the plane bursts into flames. this is video that came in taken by witnesses at the scene of the crash. the two people on board that plane died but no one on the ground was hurt. that is because this medical office building was closed at the time of the crash. it all started around 7:30 last night. the muni 5-20 plane took off. again that plane skid across the pavement and hit the front of the building. the watson vail airport is less than a half a mile away from this hospital. >> in the window looking out it was a lot of smoke. never seen that color type of smoke before. i'

ktvu channel 2 reporter allie rasmus joins us now to talk about what caused this fire. lie. >> reporter: well, it happened in the hill top apartment building complex right here behind us. this is in san pablo. we had been set up inside right next to the apartment where the fire started. but short timing a the property managers kicked us off the property. firefighters said what caused this fire is that a woman who lived in the apartment building had fallen asleep with a pot on the stove. it happened around 2:00 this morning. firefighters let us inside the apartment building where this fire started. you can't see a lot of fire damage, but according to firefighters there was smoke everywhere inside. in fact, some of the neighbors early this morning told us that some of that smoke damage extended to some of the neighboring apartment units. the smoke triggered the apartment's sprinkler system. a mother and her infant daughter were inside the apartment at the time. and firefighters say that sprinkler system probably saved their lives. >> the threat was not from fire. the threa

allie rasmus has left the police press conference and joins us live with new information. >> reporter: we are at bart head quarters in downtown oakland where a press conference involving the bart chief of police just wrapped up 30 minutes ago. barts police chief says based on the information he has, he says he is quote satisfied that the officers involved in this shooting acted appropriately. now the confrontation that lead up to this shooting happened at 9:45 last night. two bart police officers responded to a car about a man that appeared to be drunk standing on the platform with an open container of alcohol. the chief says because this is an ongoing investigation he couldn't get into too much detail about what happened next. he couldn't tell us how this confrontation between the two officers and the man on the platform started or exactly what this man did to the officers. all we know at this point according to bart police the man had a knife and broken bottle. chief reign knee says one minute after the officers arrived on the platform the confrontation insued and the man was shot.

allie rasmus joins us live to see why there's real concern he might be in trouble. >> reporter: we're on tunnel road in the oakland hills. you can see from the sign here. we've seen a lot of cyclists go by. this is a very popular route with cyclists. this is where friends and family of mike martin believes he may have bop fon -- he may have gone for a bike ride on saturday. we just got an update from berkeley police about a half- hour ago. they are sending more officers to search this. martin's girlfriend says he told her he was going for a bike ride on saturday afternoon. he was supposed to meet up with her for dinner saturday night and she was concerned when she didn't show -- when he didn't show up. she was even more concerned when another cyclist called her to say they found martin's cell phone on skyline boulevard. she and her family have gone through some of the bike trails in the area looking for clues or signs of the bike. now, we have a picture of him to show you. mike martin is 6 feet tall, with brown hair and brown is. he lives in berkeley and works as an edge near at uc be

ktvu's allie rasmus joining us now with the details about the mystery surrounding the teenage girl's death. allie. >> reporter: dave, right now we are at the sonoma county sheriff's office in santa rosa. they are the entity investigating the death of this 14-year-old girl. now the information we have right now is very limited. but in a statement the sheriff office provided us they explained this happened saturday night, early sunday morning. four teenage girls got together for a sleepover in santa rosa. at some point during the night all four teens became violently sick and started throwing up after they said they passed around a soda that had some unknown substance in it. the parents told the sheriff that the soda tasted strange. at first they thought it was food poisoning but sunday morning one of the girls was unresponsive paramedics discovered the 14-year-old girl had in fact died. sonoma county sheriff's office violent crimes investigative detectives are looking into this death. we are working to get some more information. and we will provide you updates throughout the morning. l

allie rasmus is getting new information from investigators and she is going to have an update from watsonville at 5:00 this morning. >>> overnight oakland police were busy investigating four different shootings that happened within 90 minutes of each other. they all happened between 8:30 and 10:00 last night. in all, ten people injured. ktvu kraig debro joins us now from oakland with the details on what happened. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, pam. opd investigators should be still look into these cases as the last one happened at 10:00 last night. hopefully i get a chance to talk to somebody. the shooting happened in east oakland. and in a couple of these case there is are multiple victims. emts took two people to the highland hospital. police responded to the scene around 8:30 last night. a bullet grazed the third victim but that person didn't need to see a doctor and didn't go to the hospital. another person was shot at 98th and bancroft. this shooting was reported around 9:45 last night. each victim has nonlife threatening injuries. 15 minutes earlier than that about a half mile

ktvu allie rasmus joins us live from san bruno. >> reporter: the crews haven't arrived just yet. we are told they will be arriving here shortly. they have ordered pg&e to do this excavation work. it's part of their investigation into what may have caused the pipeline disaster. but the pipeline they want to take a closer look at is right here next to us. under ground behind this fenced off area. we have a closer up look of who it looks like down here. you can show you that video. this is where they removed an all the foot section of pipeline. this particular pipeline you are looking at hasn't been used in more than 50 years. it's not the pipeline that ruptured in the explosion. this one has been connected to the one that exploded. investigators plan to run a camera through the old pipeline. they are going to take a closer look at it to see if the way it may have been welded or cruxed may offer clues to the san brew knee pipeline ex-- san bruno pipeline explosion. it destroyed 38 homes. many people in the area had months of counseling. it's expected to complete its investigation in
