allie rasmus is live at sfo with information on delays due to the weather. morning, allie. >> reporter: we just got an update on cancellations that are here at sfo. 25 departures canceled. six arriving flights scheduled to arrive here have been canceled for this morning. you can see the rain was just starting to come down. it's very, very light. no storm light conditions. the weather is what is causing the delays and cancellations today here at sfo. visibility is low and the wind patterns have prompted the faa to put runway restrictions in place -- runway restrictions. delays and cancellations. taking a look at what is happening at the airport, you can see a lot of people coming to unload here. check into their flights head to visit family and friends for the holidays. this is supposed to be one of the busiest travel days of the holiday season for sfo. apparently 130,000 people coming to the airport alone. i will show you what it looks like inside the terminal. security checkpoint was pretty busy but not overwhelmingly slow. travelers can expect 30 to 60- mi

allie rasmus is joining us live from oakland with an update on the situation. allie? >> reporter: all lanes are back up. for an hour and a half, this highway right behind us, this was a complete mess. this was the scene when we arrived this morning around 5:00. for awhile. traffic, all northbound lanes of 880 were at a complete stand still. >> northbound, before the ramp, this is where the 9-car pile up happened. according to the sergeant, two cars were initially involved in a crash. they were blocking the right hand lane. then other cars behind the crash were not able to stop quickly enough to avoid it. they said they probably or likely were not able to avoid it either because of the speed and/or the rain. that led to a 9-car pile up on interstate 880. >> it was raining hard. i don't know if they were parked on the freeway or slowed down. i hit a car. another car hit me. >> reporter: now one of the drivers involved said he bought a brand new bmw yesterday. it was completely totaled. he said it was a christmas present for his mom. even though the car is totaled, he sa

allie rasmus is live to explain how bart and muni are preparing for the big crowd and changes to some routes. >> reporter: and other agencies as well. first of all tens of thousands of people come to the embarcadero for the fire works show. and there are other parties going on in the city. is a lot of people will not want to take their cars. bay area transit agencies are making it easier for them to leave their cars behind by offering free rides in some cases and extended service. starting with bart. bart you will still have to pay for your tickets but their trains will be running late tonight until 3:00 a.m. tuesday morning. but in order to avoid congestion, trains will not be stopping at all the stations. keep this in mind if you are riding the pepper bay point train it will stop at the embarcadero station. make sure you go to the right place to catch your ride home. muni is also extending service at the west portal and embarcadero stations. muni will run until 4:00 a.m. new years day. and fourth and king muni will run until 2:15 a.m.. muni will be free for riders starting from 8:00

allie rasmus is live in pleasant hill with more on a scare yesterday that had police searching two local campuses. good morning, allie. >> reporter: well, good morning. we just talked to the principal at sequoia middle school who said after what happened yesterday, this prank call ended up being a false alarm but she says she wants toed send out the mess -- wants to send out the message that this threats are being taken seriously. now, the schools went into lockdown yesterday after someone called the front office and said "you're next" and simply hung up. police were notified. they came to the campus and they determined there was no real threat. the mt. diablo school district's superintendent sent a recorded message to all parents in the district explaining the content of that phone call and the school's response to and the principal of sequoia says even though this was a prank, their response was warranted. >> by no means is this a laughing matter. and people are apprehensive of returning to school. we need to make sure that we are staying.com and focused and safe. and by creating this

and ktvu reporter allie rasmus is live right now at st. mary's cathedral in san francisco with more on a special service to honor the victims. allie. >> reporter: st. mary's cathedral opened its doors around 7:00 this morning. the service is just wrapping up now. this is one of their regularly scheduled services. it's one that is dedicated specifically to the victim's of the connecticut shooting. but the pastor did lead the congregates inside in a moment of prayer. he mentioned and paid attribute to the victims of the shooting. we talked to him briefly before the service began. he said he is planning on mentioning the victims and incorporating that into the services. now inside the church, they have also set up a small memorial dedicated to the victims of the connecticut shooting. there is a wreath off to a side. a candle that is it will. and a prayer to guide people who want to come by and say a prayer. we did see a number of people stop by in and take a moment. they have noticed more people coming in to pray on their own since friday's sh

allie rasmus is live with more. >> reporter: well, school administrators at the school district made the call this morning to cancel class for all 600 students at white hill middle school in fairfax. the reason, yesterday's storm brought a lot of rain water and maude and -- mud and that mud got in some of the building. when we arrived at the the school, there was restoration -- at the school, there was a restoration crew cleaning u administrators are trying to come up with a plan to clean up and whether they will be open to open the school tomorrow. a tributary of fairfax creek runs across from the school. and it looks like a lot of tree branches had to be cleared out after the rain. there's also construction going on at the site. the school is adding two more buildings to the site. it's not clear if a ulof that construction contributed to the problem. 6th through 8th grade classes were canceled at while hall. we don't know if the school will reopen tomorrow. that's something they are trying to figure out right now. and we'll have more on this story coming up on the news at 5:00. all

new at noon, allie rasmus joins us live in oakland to explain what the sheriffs want to do with the drones and why the aclu opposes the plan. >> reporter: well, today, the alameda county supervisors were supposed to consider whether to allow the sheriff's office to buy a drone or as the sheriff says, he prefers to call it, an unmanned aerial device. but the item was taken off the supervisors' agenda, just as a couple of civil liberties groups had a press conference expressing concerns. the alameda county sheriff's office unveiled what they might purchase, this device. in the past month, alameda county received around $31,000 in state grant money to buy an unmanned aerial system known to some as a drone. the devices have live hd quality video and infrared capability. and that's raising the concerns of civil liberties groups. >> we have nothing on paper that will bind the sheriff and accountability methods to prevent privacy issues. so we should not be rushing into this. >> it's law enforcement's job to protect people's privacy and to think we would use this unmanned aerial system for civili

ktvu's allis rasmus tells us why investigators are calling the fire suspicious. >> reporter: an alameda police officer stands guard on santa clara avenue. this morning the american oak restaurant became a crime scene. after investigators found signs that the fire had a happened there was suspicious. >> possibly purposefully set. >> reporter: it started after 6:00 morning. firefighters tackled part of the fire from the roof and the smoke and flames didn't spread to any other buildings. no one was hurt, but police closed off the street for their investigation. once the fire was out and investigators had a chance to go inside, they found that the fire had started in multiple separate locations. that raised a red-flag. >> accidentally fire would probably have one cause. so the chance of it being two or three different spots and two or three different waves, definitely raises suspicions. >> reporter: max russian has been a cook here for the last year and a half. >> it's just kind of wild. you know, waking up really early to find out i'm not working today. >> reporter: now he and his co-worke

allie rasmus talks about the details of this morning's fire, allie?rter: well it was the second time a fire happened in the past four months and here on 66th avenue, they responded to it and as you can imagine the building used to be an appliance shop called budget appliances. at 4:30 a.m. police responded to a structure fire at that address. the flames engulfed the inside of the building and it only took firefighters ten minutes to put it out. the cause of this fire is still under investigation and according to the battalion chief there are signs about how it may have started. >> there were homeless people living in the vacant building. >> reporter: the building had been vacant since august and that's when the first fire started. they believed it to be suspect suspicious in -- suspicious in -- suspicious in nature. the fire captain said sending out arson investigators is standard procedure and they believe the fire may have been caused by homeless people who were trying to keep warm overnight. allie rasmus ktvu channel 2 morning news. >>> well repair

channel 2 reporter allie rasmus has more on a scare yesterday that had police searching two local campuses, allie? >> reporter: well, it is a sign that most schools across the country are not taking any perceived threats lightly. here we are in pleasant hill, this elementary school and the daycare, they are all located next to each other. they were briefly locked down after somebody called and said, you are next and immediately hung up. steve lawrence sent a recorded phone message about this incident and the school's immediate response. >> as a parent of two daughters, i understand the urge to want to protect our children in these confusing times it becomes an overriding feeling to want to protect our children. >> reporter: now the police came to all three campuses to make sure there was no viable threat to the schools. the schools were in lockdown and they were safe and secure at at the time. police determined there was no threat but they are working with the phone company in order to track down where that phone call came from. a full investigation has been launched because of this phone

ktvu's allie rasmus live at the bayview police station. you have the latest information. good morning, allie. >> reporter: good morning, dave. there's still a lot of unanswered questions about how this happened. police are hoping more witnesses do come forward. they need the public's help with this case. it was around 8:30 last night when a resident called the police on brussels street. they saw a man and woman gagged in the middle of the street. the man was unconscious. the woman, semiconscious. the police weren't able to tell us if they were stabbed, shot or beaten. the man died from his injuries. one of the big questions is to figure out where this crime happened. did it occur where the couple were found or were they just dropped off there after they were assaulted. police canvassed the neighbor gathering information. and police are asking anyone who may have seen something to contact their anonymous typeline or tend an autonomous text to tip 411. investigators are waiting for the woman's condition to improve so they can talk to her and hopefully get more information th

allie rasmus is live to explain how the crash happens and the officers' condition. >> good morning. we're on interstate 580. this crash happened around five miles east of us. now, there were two chp officers who were involved in this crash. both of those officers were in the vehicle you see there that had to be flipped over. both officers are okay. their patrol car -- patrol car flipped during ally speed chase. the chase started around 5:30 between the greenville exit mit misdemeanorle of the -- exited in middle of the pass. that driver refused to stop. the chp sergeant said -- that we talked to this morning said she's just flash flood there were not many cars on the road and that no one was seriously hurt. that's the primary concern that we have is that people are not harmed in these situations and continuing to provide that safety for the public is the -- is the important factor. another car was able to stop that speeding driver near tracy. the driver and passenger were arrested. the chp is still investigating the crash and also investigating why the driver who led them on the cha
