cnn meteorologist allison chinchar is joining us now. allison, the forecast does not look positive over the next couple of days in terms of easing up for them. >> no. i think the point. we have started to see the beginning of the next round of rain but what people need to realize is that each day going forward, that rain is going to intensify and at least it now, the amount coming in, they are able to pump back out. once the rains really get to downpours and torrential levels that may not be the case any more. a look at the maps and thailand and where the cave is located to the northern region. look at the reds and oranges on your screen. it indicates moisture coming back into that region. and, again, this is not krildri. for the remainder of sun and monday and tuesday, 80 to 90% chance of rain all of those days and really the rain chances extend even beyond that. really for the next seven to ten days. the amount of rain that is expected in this region and is about another 2 to 4 inches. that may not sound like that much to you but it's e

. >> cnn meteorologist allison chinchar is joining us now. david talked about the intense rains they experienced laea lit while ago. this is going to keep up the next week now. >> and get worse next week. by that i mean the amount of rain that is going to fall is going to get larger and larger so that is a concern. that window is narrowing very quickly. here is a look at the satellite. here you can see thailand. this is the area around where the cave is. all of the orange and red colors you see here is the moisture. that rain moving back into the area. and it's really starting to surge. you're going to see more frequent downpours as those rain showers get closer. here is a look at the last couple of weeks. we had a lot of rain early on in june. but the good news was from july 2nd to the 7th a break but notice yesterday on or 11 hours ahead of us there they get rain and we will continue to see the rain. sunday, monday, and tuns high rain chances 80% to 90% chance of rain. the upcoming week, we have rain chances every day but notice as we get t

. >> we want to bring in cnn meteorologist allison chinchar. allison, how much rain is in the forecast here? we know it can complicate the rescue efforts? >> there's a twofold here. you have to know how much is going to fall and for how long. remember, this is the rainy season. this isn't something where it rains for a day and you get a week's worth of a break. with that said, we've been lucky enough to have a break. starting july 2nd through july 6th, we've had at most a trace of rain. that's good for a lot of the rescue efforts. it's allowed some of the water to come back down. the problem is it's going to be short lived. here is the location of the cave we've been talking about. look at these reds and oranges. that end case the moisture. it's coming back and coming back full force. when we talk about how much rain and for how long, that's when you look at the forecast. today, about a 50% chance of rain on saturday. once we get to sunday and monday, that's when those rain chances creep up to 80% and 90%. again, not just that it's the long term

allison chinchar, thank you very much for that update. i want to go to dr. carol lieberman. she is a scuba diver as well as a psychiatrist. doctor, thank you so much for joining me. as you see and hear the great news of these four boys coming out of the cave, and obviously we're awaiting news on the others, what is going through your mind as a medical professional, both physical and emotional? >> just how amazing and difficult it was. i mean, to hear that four boys have already made it is just astounding. because some of the things -- of course the physical things that thai gone through for all of these days, but psychologically, ptsd, they have to have some degree of ptsd. we heard about some of them who were hearing roosters and dogs and all of that, which could well be hallucinations, maybe it's true. and oxygen, maybe decreasing, buttocks general does amazing things to the body and the psyche. it makes people feel less alert, some describe it makes you feel drunk, and it also decreases your mood. the boys left in this cave need to know that the first four made it. that w

i want to bring in meteorologist allison chinchar. tell us about the hours here, the medial hours, in terms of how it would impact their survival. >> it's two-fold. one is how much rain is going to fall in the next several hours, and on top of that, how long does it keep going? because the thing is it may not be the next hour. it may be the next six hours that they have to contend with the rain. the good news is they have to think of the rain. that is good news. that allowed some of the water within the cave system to recede. the problem is it's not going to last. we've already started to see the moisture come through not only in jonathan's live shot you saw a few moments ago, but even the satellite. this is the location right here around the cave. notice the orange and red colors. that means the moisture is coming back into this area and there's a lot of it. it's not a little bit of moisture coming in because, again, this is the rainy season. when you look at the forecast, sunday, monday, tuesday, all have an 80% chance of rain. the

senior meteorologist allison chinchar. from your perspective as a meteorologist, what's the time line the rescuers are looking at given the timeline and the storms rolling in? >> i hate to sound too depress, but the time line has really run out. it ooh been the last few days where they've been lucky enough not to have too much rain. notice, july 2nd through july, they had no measurable rain, but the rain has started. you saw that from jonathan's live shots there. at times, it's coming down in torrential downpours. the problem is with all of this moisture coming back into the region, with that coming back. they're running out of time quickly. not only is it flowing into the cave system, but you have the chimneys, other areas the water comes in through. there's not going to be much time before the water starts to fill up again within the cave system. unfortunately we're looking at a lot of rain chances in the forecast. sunday, monday, and tuesday, an 80% chance of rain. and beyond that there are rain forecasts for the rest o

cnn meteorologist allison chinchar is with us.t is just -- i don't even think there are words for what -- to think of what these people are going through as they try to help other people. the pictures are so riveting. >> scary is probably about the only word i can come up. the video is that. it's incredible. but it's also scary. i want to point out it also teaches us something about how fire can spread. here is what you have. you have your fire that is in place. we all know heat rises so as that air goes up, new air is actually going to come in and replace it but it's coming from multiple different directions. so you're starting to get that swirling rotating motion as that column of air is going up. when it does, it ends up looking like a tornado, except being made out of fire. well, very similar to what a traditional tornado would do, it has debris in it. the problem is we are not talking cars or pieces of homes. you're talking embers and fire, basically. that fire can potentially spread to places where it did not exist before. n

let's bring in meteorologist allison chinchar. explain how this happens. >> how it works, the fires are incredibly hot. it is taking that air, heat rises, we know this. as heat and hot air goes up, new air has to come into replace it. as it does, you get that swirling effect. that's why it looks like a rotating tornado would. here's the problem. it acts very similar to a tornado in that it is picking thing up. it picks up debris, including other embers. as that firenado crosses roads or crosses over areas of land, it can trigger new fires in places the fire didn't exist prior to that, so that's going to be a concern. another phenomenon that takes place is pier oh cumulus clouds. you can see smoke and clouds bill oh up. this is caused by intense heat from those fires. you can get them caused by volcanos. the question is the forecast for the fires. what are the conditions taking place. unfortunately the temperatures, especially around the carr fire area are expected to remain in triple digits for three to five days. in addition, you
