i'm allison kropff. and i'm ian reitz. right now-- tampa police have several blocks taped off in south tampa outside a house where officers shot and killed a man. 10news reporter sarah hollenbeck is live on cherokee avenue, near himes and gandy. sarah, this was a close call for officers. yes. it was a protective shield that saved a tampa police officer's life. the officer was holding that shield when the man fired at him, the bullet was less than an officers tell me after the man tried to shoot them twice-- the first time the gun didn't go off-- they had no choice but to fire back, killing him in the front yard of the home at 3312 cherokee. officers were here because someone called 9-1-1 for help in a domestic dispute officers killed and a woman who lives inside. the woman was not hurt. but a tampa police spokesperson tell close that bullet came to the officers. more than one officer will be on paid administrative leave while the police department investigates. police aren't releasing the man's name. officers are out here
